If I had to sit down, I would wipe down the seat with a simple biocide (like an alcohol swab) if I had it on hand. If not, a couple of layers of toilet paper on the seat offers temporary protection. This is all preferrable to renal damage from "holding it in".
Interestingly enough, most infections are not contracted in this manner. Rubbing the eye with a contaminated finger is often the culprit. Most bathroom germs are picked up when we grab the door handle. This is the place to use protection. Don't grab that handle! Bump the door with your butt or use a paper towel.

Being a guy, I just use one hand on my nose and the other hand on the little fireman when i take a #1> how ever if there is a need for a #2 and the restroom is nasty ! I would hold it!

I'd hold it in. What ever is lurking in a nasty bathroom could affect your health for a long, long time. If you have an accident, oh well, your clothes can be washed and returned to normal.
I'd risk embarrassment over a case of lice or herpes any day!

Depends on what I'm holding and how badly I have to go. There are very few clean surfaces anywhere, no matter how clean they look or smell. The National Restaurant Association tested and surveyed all types of eateries for bacteria; there was more harmful bacteria in the kitchens and behind the bars than there were in most of the restrooms. The number one location for concentrated bacteria? The servers' ball-point pens!!

I have a huge fear of public bathrooms. I would hold it for 3 days before i would use one. Nasty bathrooms are my worst nightmare.

I would just clean up before and after because I rather it not become a nightmare for myself or anyone who happens along behind me. I have cleaned a many of public bathrooms.

I went to farm aid at tinley park and after awhile the toliets where down right nasty. i just took my chance and than after a 4 hr drive home, i took a hr bath.

It greatly depends on my need to go and take care of my business. Being a guy; if its the number "1"; its a easy factor to handle; but the number "2", while that's though.

Depends on what I had to do. If I just had to go pee, I might hold it. If I had to take a healthy crap and had the Big D, I would probably just brave it and hover over the toilet.

its called hovering and we've all done it. I have even went outside on the ground when the bathroom is to nasty and i'm a girl.
