I would say don't have her food just laying out for her to eat whenever she wants. Feed her 2 or 3 times a day and take the bowl away once she is done, and also you should play with her when you have time.

My cat actually preferes the taste of Science Diet low-fat. Try that. Here are two ideas:
Get an empty pill or vitamin bottle, and wash it throroughly. Cut or drill some holes in it that are just slighty larger than a kibble of food. When it's time to feed her, put the food inside. She will like the rattling sounds it makes, and the more she bats it around (getting exercise) the more the food comes out.
Kitty TV: If you have trees outside your apartment, put a bird feeder in one near a window. My cats love to watch the birds, it increases their heart rate (because of the excitement) and they run around the living room crouching behind furniture and darting at the window. It's a great way to keep a cat up and active during the day when you're at work.

I suggest feeding her food that is formulated for indoor cats. Also providing things to play with will get her to excercise more often. If you give her treats, cut back a bit on those as well. I have indoor cats too and find that they do tend to gain weight more quickly, so giving them things to keep active and giving them the right types of food are all things I suggest.

Iams makes a great weight control formula that has worked with my cat. Also, I set aside time to play with her and have her do things that get her up and moving. I also only refill her food bowl once a day and only feed her dry food, no canned cat food or any kinds of scraps.

Well, try spending more time with your kitty. A kitten or cat does need more attention. I give my kitten natural foods. Like slices of meat that we eat. or some tomato sliced in little slices. My cat used to be fat because of kitten food that you buy in stores. Now I feed with human foods and it loses weight. Another option is that it is pregmet. Or it is tring to be the way she/he is.

There are special foods at pet stores for overweight cats. No human food. Also, look into getting her a cat tree. They love to play on that and it's great exercise. Get her a harness and take her for long walks. She will love every minute of it!

well...You should let your kitty go outside for walks even though it is an indoor kitty...every animal needs exercise. Feed it a little less..not too much.

Use a coat hanger, to rig a wired-crown to a dog's head that connects about 3-feet behind your cat's collar. You cat will run, and lose weight. As will the dog as a by-product. When the dog dies of a heart attack, uncouple the new contraption.

It is not easy but one of the best things is to try to wean her off of canned food and go strictly to dry food.. In particular, dry food that is for overweight cats.. that is.. dry food with less fat.. That is about the only thing we can do with an inside cat.. AND, of course... do not feed it from your dinner table...

Take her for walks on a leash (use a "Roman harness" for dogs - some cats can escape the figure 8 ones) or play with her a lot.
