I think it's because he has a bad stomache?
Is there something I can do to help him, like give him some tablets or anything ? Or is natures cure best for him...
Thank you very much for your answers.

Thank you all for your kind replies.
My Vet has recently placed him on a diet and I am taking him out at least twice a day. Maybe the increase in exercise and the decrease in food is one of the causes, along with an upset stomache?
I will keep an eye on him and if it continues I will consult our vet as it's better to be safe than sorry especially as it concerns my best friend...

Many times, a dog will eat grass because they are sick and need to throw up. I suggest you contact a vet and have your dog seen to make sure there isn't anything wrong with him. The below link may offer some additional answers for you.

the web sites below give some interesting answers wouldn't like to print them myself first one yuk
try this from second one
Grass is pretty indigestible for cats and dogs because they do not have the digestive enzymes necessary to breakdown the fibre content ..which is high. Apart from fibre and water, grass also contains some minerals, vitamin A and sometimes vitamin D.
The nutritional value of grass for cats and dogs is very poor...so there is unlikely to be a basic instinctive nutritional reason why cats and dogs would eat grass ...unless they have a need for dietary fibre itself which is thought to be unlikely. Cats in particular are known to be obligate carnivores and have no requirement for nutrients derived from plant material.
It has been reported (but not scientifically proved) that cats and dogs will eat grass if they have a digestive system problem such as gastritis or nausea. They will also eat unusual materials if they have a nutritional deficiency, or if they are hungry and do not have access to food. On the other hand eating small amounts of untypical foods ..grass, wood, leaves ..can just be a normal behavioural trait and is not important providing the material eaten is not toxic - such as laburnum leaves or sticks. Grass is usually safe - unless it has been sprayed with herbicide or insecticides.
Provet Recommendation If your pet suddenly starts eating grass it would be worthwhile getting your veterinarian to examine it just in case there is an underlying gastrointestinal problem or a nutritional deficiency.

Your dog eats grass when he has tummy ache, it will help him be sick if he needs to. If he eats it all the time then maybe you should look at what you feed him in case something is upsetting him? There are so many varieties of dog food for sale it can be daunting. Tinned meat, bagged dried!! I feed dried food but put some scraps and we keep our gravy and warm it to moisture the food. Also make sure your dog is wormed. Best to buy it from A farm retailer or pet supplier. It seems expensive to start with but if you try something like Panacur it will last longer than you think as it is dosed in mls.
Don't worry too much it is very common.

I was always told that grass helped settle a dogs stomach or that they weren't getting the proper nutrients, but I read an article while waiting in the vets office yesterday that dispelled this rumor and stated that dogs simply like the taste. This would definitely explain why my dog will only eat grass from the nicest lawns on our street never any other kind.

Yes he has a bad stomach ache and they eat grass because it helps them throught up or maybe gag some of what ever is making them have this problem so right now i think the dog knows what he is doing maybe slow down on what you are feeding him so he does not have a stomach ache but there is no reason to worry unless he starts showing that he is in pian then he could have something wrong with is stamach

I put my beagle on diet food too because she was getting really fat with the original food I was feeding her, and she started eating grass it just means that she is hungry and that the food I am feeding her just didn't have enough sugar and she is not used to it. But I would say from my experience that you should just let him get used to the food and he will stop eating grass. But you could give him a little snack some time during the night so he is at least not completely starving when he wakes up.

This may be nothing to worry about. I have a female jack russell who is 8 years old and from the time I brought her home and to this day she still eats grass every day and a few times a day. She doesn't throw up afterward either. I discussed this with my vet and he says he has heard alot about the grass eating. He said I should start to worry when she starts to throw up. I feed my dogs IAMS so it is not due to crappy food but more in they are missing something in their diet and that is how they get it.

Animals, dogs, cats, etc. eat grass to clean their intestines. They will do this to clear hairballs or to settle an upset stomach. This isn't anything to worry about unless he is vomiting a lot. Then you should get him to the vet. If it's just when he's out walking, I don't imagine that I would worry to much unless there is other behavior with this that indicates illlness.

Seriously grass is the best thing because if you give him medicine for humans you will make him alot sicker than he is now. Dogs eat grass when their stomachs hurt and mine do it all the time. Sometimes they throw it up and sometimes not. If he does it every day maybe he just likes the taste...lol

This is perfectly normal for a dog to eat grass, Sometimes it is because they have an upset tummy.
But most of the time its for the moisture they get from the grass.
So don't worry and let your dog enjoy his grazing!! lol
