Check with the airlines or the embassy for the country you are traveling to - they will know the rules a lot better than random answerers.

Traveling with a dog is hard enough when you're driving in the US - people from many other countries may not be keen on having your dog in their hotels or hostels or restaurants. I'd recommend leaving the dog home.

They did a lot of our Dog Show trips (with dogs) to Bermuda, Canada and other countries. They may be able to help you.

To take a pet outside of the United States you must have them in quarantine for 30-60 days before and then for however long the country you go to decides they need to be held. Also all paperwork and shots must be in perfect order. Being that the dog is so young it will either be fine or have terrible behavioral responses. The smaller breeds tend to adversely react to such a change in environment. Also your friend is just getting used to both you and your home so I wouldn't recommend it. Try finding a friend or a kennel that you have researched and trust to watch them. If they go into a kennel they must have an inoculation against kennel cough and the kennel should insist on it. Good luck I hope this helps

The HSUS recommends that you do not transport your pet by air unless absolutely necessary. According to the Airline Transportation Association, more than 5,000 animals are killed, injured, or lost on commercial flights each year. Our beloved pets face risks including excessively hot or cold temperatures, poor ventilation, scarcity of oxygen, and rough handling. The airline industry treats live animals as mere baggage, transporting them in cargo holds not truly designed for life support. In the past, airlines have neither responded appropriately to reports of animal injuries, nor provided accurate information to the flying public.
If you must travel with your pet on a major airline, read our tips for safe pet air travel. And remember: While finding alternative transportation or boarding for your animal might be inconvenient, the inconvenience will seem minor when you consider the risk of losing your companion forever. Above all, when making travel decisions, please consider what is best for your pet.
I have a Shih-Tzu,those little dogs are so precious and so sensitive.I would not even consider putting him on a jet!
