Vague question alert: Male or female? Height?

Assuming a male of average height, exerecise in general and push-ups specifically can aid in maintaining muscle tone, cardio-vascular function, and joint flexabilty. At 13, the body is still growing in a variety of ways. It is not advisable for most teens to try "body-building" exercises until after they are in high school, but maintaining good exercise habits is never a bad thing.

With respect to push-ups, however, there should be a more rounded exercise program. Some exercises, if performed exclusively, can produce uneven muscle development. Push ups develop the pectoral muscles and triceps, with ancillary benefits to the deltoids. A ballanced work out to include the biceps and other torso muscles is advisable at any age.
