Like when you're walking down the hall and they say How ya doin, I say Good, how are you and they just keep on strollin without answering. I don't really care, just something I've noticed.

I've noticed that too, I've also noticed that when I'm walking down the hall and the whole way its like I'm lookin at you, you lookin at me, and then I say Hi and get nothing in responce - what up with that? I guess its just a personality thing. I always greet and respond - guess it just depends on the person.

usually it's bcuz they don't want to converse with you or just in general. asking "how ya doin" forces them to either ignore or stop and chat it up with you. there;s no real quick and easy response to that question except, ''good". then you walk away and still makes it look like you're not interested in talking. if they're up for chatting then they'll probably engage you, if not then they'll just ignore you. try saying hey or hello instead of asking how they're doing. you'll at least get a response and won't make an uncomfortable situation arise.

Because greetings have become nothing more than catch phrases. This is so evident in So. California; when people run into each other and one says "Lets do lunch" and not mean it. After while people grow numb and love/respect grows cold.

Because they don't really care "how ya doin" and they figure you don't care either. It's just a form of greeting.

What makes you think that they care? Seems like it's just a greeting. They really don't care either!

They're just doing the 'socially' acceptable thing of saying Hi and actually pretending like they care. They expect you to say 'I'm doing good.' That's all they want though, they don't want to stay and chat.

Because you are one of the rare people that become invisible at various times. Now all you have to do is learn to control this gift.

They've given you a question, but you've responded with an answer, followed with another question ("Good.....how are you?").

Usually, that person is only expecting an answer, not the "how are you?" attatched to it, so they just carry on.

because so often, people ask us how we are doing, and keep walking not even waiting for the answer.

we have grown to accept that they dont really care how we are doing.

If you are on the move, keep it short, just say hi.
