The painting is of the inside of a bus. The passengers are all weird looking and there is one man who is screaming at the front. The predominant colours and dark blue and black. It is reminiscent of Francis Bacon, but it isn't him.

I don't know how to search for it using Google, as I don't know the title of the piece, nor the artist. Any ideas would be most welcome.

It sounds like a British painting (is it?)
It's obviously twentieth( or twenty first century). It sounds like the kind of thing that was done in the fiftys or sixties.
I would narrow the search by googling 'british sixties painting'. If you can find something done in a similar style and explore the links from that page you might be able to find your artist.

The other possibility as someone as already suggested is remember where you saw it and work back from there.

Considering the closed in setting, the colors and the reference to Bacons style(I don't think Bacon would ever choose that setting), I would suggest you try Jack B Yeats. If it's not him still check out his 'About to write a letter', I think you'll like it.

Call the advertising dept of the bus company and ask who did the ad. They, or the advertiser, can tell you.
