DON'T go AWOL and DON'T purposely fail the drug test. AWOL carries an arrest warrant if you so much as get pulled over for a speeding ticket (which is bound to happen) you'll be arrested. A hot drug test may get you a dishonorable discharge but that will follow you for the rest of your life. Ever filled out a job application? They almost always ask if you've ever had a less than honorable discharge from the military. DON'T DO IT. I know when my husband enlisted he said that until he got on the bus he could still take it back. But he was on Delayed Entry Program so that may be why. But I'm pretty sure if you haven't left for bootcamp you can get out of it. Not sure why you'd want to though, it's a decent job and it's a guaranteed paycheck! For most people, a few years in the military will be good for you. And who knows, you may love it!

Yep if you are in DEP, read this:

What the guy says below about being AWOL is correct, but the last person executed for it was during WW2. The military might pursue it if they classify you as a deserter. With all due respect, you should have thought about this before you signed.

If you aren't in DEP, you're more or less screwed to my understanding and probably looking at jail time.

Do some drugs and the drug test they'll give you in bootcamp will come out dirty. This worked for my friend. He was labeled as being dishonorary discharged, but who cares. It worked!

Nope. You signed a contract with the government. If you don't show up to the MEPS station, you're AWOL.

I would assume if you do not show up for training and do not call to explain why , and do not answer or return their calls or letters when they do try to contact you- they will solve your problem for you and De-List / Fire you automatically.

Good Luck
