I never use foil. For the perfect baked potato, place a potato in a pan of cold water and bring to the boil, boil for 3 minutes. Drain and cut a small cross on the skin. Place in a baking dish and bake for approx 1 hour at gas mark 6. Serve with your choice of topping. Delicious
Sometimes I make twice baked, when the potato is cooked remove from the oven, cut in half length ways and scoop out the potato then mash it with salt, pepper, a little butter and grated cheddar, spoon mixture into potato skins, sprinle a little cheese on top and return to the oven, bake for a further 10 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown

I finally gave in and used the microwave to cook my potatoes and I will not do it any other way now.
Clean the potatoe and poke a bunch of holes in it, then wrap it in a papertowel. Most newer microwaves have a potatos button use that. Here is the trick half way through take the potatoe out and lightly press it in your hand all around. Not to hard but you can feel the inside moving a little then put it back in and let it finish cooking. When you take it out do the little massage of the potato again before you cut it. I have perfect baked patoto every time this way.
I found when I do this massage type thing it cooks better than if I just throw it in. I don't get any hard parts of the potato that way.

Absolutely! I never use aluminum foil. Brush the potato with some butter or even better you can use some extra virgin olive oil. The skin will turn out awesome! Give it a try.

Absolutely. Try brushing some olive oil on the skin and poke it a few times so it doesn't burst open. In addition, there are a lot of studies out now that attribute aluminum (even aluminum foil) to Alzheimer's disease. I personally don't mix any aluminum with cooking.

I think it will be OK.
The foil is to help it cook evenly or not dry out or something like that.
You'll be fine. Just be sure to stab it a few times with a fork first.

Yes, I often bake them without foil. It is really good to lightly coat the skin with olive oil and then roll them in Kosher salt. Then bake them.

Yes thats fine. I cook mine without the foil, all that will happen is that the potato will be more crispy

Might come out a little dry. Unless, you put it in a deep pan with water at the bottom. Try, if it's not good, you know to use foil the next time.

It will turn out better without foil. It cooks quicker with foil, but only slightly, and you don't get the full 'jacket' effect.
