In fact the Islamic prayers keep almost all parts of your body active and in good shape. My father is ninety four years old and I have never seen him miss a prayer. He prays regularly and is healthy, in my view because of it. He also follows the other rules such as eating less, taking little from this World and being kind to others, as we love God, we have to be kind and gentle to the creatures He Almighty made.
When you excercise your back, your arms, legs, stomach and feet daily, wash the arms and feet and face, keep yourself clean, it truly prolongs life. All of my uncles and aunts who pray regularly are healthy and have long lives. They are also without stress, as they leave things in the hands of the MIGHTY ONE, after giving their best shot.
All these things combined give you a good physical, mental and spiritual life and God prolongs your life if you are earning good blessings through worship, through helping others and being useful to the fellow creatures human and animals.

It is advised by the doctors that early morning walk and light exercise is very good for health. What does one do when he exercise? He tries to work with arms, legs, abdomin n back etc. A muslim's prayer does that exercies job in a perfact way, not only early morning but 5 times a day.
That 5 times are also noticable. Early morning one I already mentioned. The rest of 4 are starting before each part of the day cycle; like 2nd one, right after noon, when the day cycle enters in the 2nd step, 3rd one right before evening when the day cycle enters into 3rd period, 4th one right after evening and before night starts, and the last one when there is dark all around.
What I mean to say is, you start every time of the day with light exercise, as well as with praying and thanking to God... A saying of Prophet of muslims is that when you pray, God forgives all of your sins u have done between this prayer and the last one.
On the other hand, if one is sick, or have back problem, as some friend has mentioned earlier, then one can pray while sitting or even on the bed. If one cannot even get up, he can pray even only with indications of steps rather performing them literaly.
Hence, it does not shows that praying in Islam hurts by any means, rather it is benificiary for human body and soul.
Please check following links if you are interested about knowing more about this topic. You can see the pictures in link one that how a muslim prays. Notice the last step specially; it is exactly the position that the baby have in mother's body. Does it hurts to the baby?

Nope, it doesnt, and get this, its beneficial for the body
"In fact, according to modern medical research, each prayer position relates to a different organ system. These organs are activated when assuming the prayer positions by stimulating the nerve ganglia that branch forth from the spinal column. As each bodily part is stimulated, healing energies increase in that area for a period of 5-30 minutes. "

Actually it is very good for the back. It stretches out the back. There are even some exercises that resemble some of the same positions in our prayer. Not only is the prayer good for the soul and it is a form of worship, but it is also good for the body.
