Oh gooooooooodness...PUHleeze, don't go to David's Bridal. They are a chain, and thus you'll be treated like they are. It's the Wal-mart of bridal shops...tell me, when you go into the Wal-mart do you feel like an individual? You probably have to depend on some dumb 16 year old to answer questions about where the gorgonzola cheese is, right? That's David's. Plus, they have ripped off several people I know with hidden prices, this and that, not telling them the whole truth.
Now that my rant is over... you can try the bridal sites, which will give you a sampling of the many, many sites that are out there for gowns. My favorites are:
theknot.com
brides.com
theweddingchannel.com
You can go to individual sites like alfredsung.com, alfredangelo.com, P.C. Mary's (they have several lines), Dere Kang, Jessica McClintock and Impression. See what I mean? There are just literally A TON. Your local library should have the latest issues of Bride's magazine in their reading arsenal, since most of them get magazine subscriptions, too. The mag's are generally expensive, so it might be better to leaf through them and look at the gowns. You'll find that there are soooooo many other better options than the generic David's Bridal. LOL.
Good luck.

I went to theknot.com and posted the same type of question there - a lot of help is there!! I used moncheri bridal, there is also a website that will beat any price for a gown, I didn't use them, but you can try: www.netbride.com
Another idea, as I did this when I was a Maid of Honor, find a dress you like, then go on Ebay and find it - I paid $50, with shipping for a dress that would have cost me $170 at their store (davidsbridal).
Good luck!!
