I believe that it's because Catholicism is completely misunderstood. Why don't people take the time to learn about the things that they don't understand? Ignorance just creates more hate.

The priest abuse scandal certainly didn't help matters any, but anti-catholicism is as old as the U.S. Catholics were routinely criticized by the Protestant establishment and most of what they said would sound familiar to any present day observer, that Catholics worship multiple gods(saints) they hold allegiance to a foreign despot (the Pope) and are obsessed with tradition instead of scripture. A book published in the 1830's entitled "The Awful Disclosures of Maria Monk" fanned the flames of anti-catholic bigotry. In fact the book was the biggest best seller in US history until the publication of Uncle Toms Cabin 20 years later. As more Catholics immigrated to the US and integrated into society anti-catholic feeling fell off but never went away entirely. As recently as 1960 John Kennedy had to calm fears that as a Catholic he would not follow the Vatican over the interests of this country, and Bob Jones U which most republican candidates for president visit is known for its anti-catholic preaching.
This isn't to say that the Catholic church itself is completely blameless. As a catholic I feel the church leadership is very insulated from what's going on in the world. They often make pronouncements as if they are living in a vacuum. For instance the birth control ban completely ignores the fact that the vast majority of catholics practice it. This insulation leads to a mentality that can lead to things like moving molesting priests to a different parish.

Catholics need to stop the hate themselves. They are not innocent when it comes to being judgmental, overbearing and breeding hate. Catholics believe just because it's not how they did it, and how they were taught, and that it's new, it's evil.

I feel that catholics purposely bring the anger on themselves, they exclude women from the preisthood. They alienate the younger generation with thier public criticsm of safe sex, even in marriage. They then turn a blind eye when thier own is accused of much horrible sins than a woman leading a congeration or some mutual sex between two married adults without the desire to reproduce.

They don't want to be liked, they just want to feel superior to everyone else.

I think because of all the controversy of abusive priests. That has really had destructive power in so many ways. There are plenty of things I disagree with in Catholic teaching and tradition, but I have a great deal of respect for the Catholic Church. And yes, I think ignorance has most to do with it.

you're acceptable and they are incorrect. there are multiple strong Catholics, i'm getting fairly pissed off with my church. They talk large about professional-existence and then by no potential do something. The Catholic Church in this section is the in ordinary words one most excellent the attempt antagonistic to abortion, and that i do not ignore that the Protestants do not favor to hitch in only simply by the indisputable fact that is led by employing Catholics. Tragic. Like I suggested to a strong Catholic chum of mine, "there are multiple Christians contained in the Catholic Church and a lot who're no longer. those who've in my opinion customary Christ as their savior are Christians. those that purely joined the Catholic Chuirch on the pretend promise that each and each and all of us Catholics bypass to heaven, purely because they're Catholics, are going to be very idssapointed when they die." AND, I also suggested that there are also Baptists which at the instantaneous are not Christians (likely a small percentage). yet, some Baptists (my church) by no potential were given round to in my opinion accepting Christ and they are interior the same boat as many of the non-Christian Catholics.

There are the same number of anti-catholics. They have become more vocal is all.

I think the current crop of pedophile lying priests made it easier for closet anti's to come forward.

Since the beginning of the Protestant reformation with Martin Luther, John Calvin, Henry VIII and other reformers. They began to question the faith and the authority of the church, the Pope. Martin Luther saw the Pope as the Antichrist. And there was controversial stories of Catholic priests seen as child molesters. In the 19th century of America, a Irish Bishop John Hughes insisted that Catholicism should flourish educate young children. But Protestant ministers objected and didn't like the concept. You may think that Catholicism is the new whore of Babylon and has no rights in America but from my point of view on Catholicism is that the Catholic church is the one true church that Christ founded. So as a Irish Catholic, i have religious rights to pray and praise God. And that's something no one can take away.
