They are not at all fragile, nor are they wimpy. They are sweet sensitive cuddly couch potatoes who can turn into a hunting machine in an instant when the prey drive is 'on'.

They are bred to hunt in varied terrain going 35 mph, agility certainly isn't going to hurt them. Not to mention they love agility! They do not do well with a firm hand in training though, and are likely to 'shut down' if you are heavy handed. Use some good treats.

Go to a field trial, you will see they are not fragile at all. If you have a Whippet take her with, she will love it!

And they sure are huntindawgs, getemgang! But yes, their skin is thin and tears easily. One Vet likened it to trying to sew tissue paper. And mine have a whole slew of winter wear.

Duct tape??? Ya, I will be sure not to ever use that on a tear. OUCH!

There's dogs of ALL breeds in agility, whippets included. I think that most of the dogs in agility are border collies and shelties just because those are the most popular due to their good reputation as being great for the sport. And there's tons of labs because those dogs are the most popular breed overall. Dogs of ALL breeds have the potential to be agility champions. I think it's more about the handler than the breed of dog. The top handlers just happen to prefer BCs and shelties. But, if they embraced other breeds, they would do just as well. Your whippet would love agility, and you should definitely start taking classes with him. It's a lot of fun.

THe very first lifetime achevment award given out by the US dog agility association was a special award to a whippet who was the only dog of any breed or jump heighth who had been on the top 10 winners list since they had started it. I will mention they are not dogs who find working at speed under the close direction of a stupid primate easy :-)

No, I've heard they are very good at agility because they are fast...but they do look pretty fragile, so I'm not really sure. Talk to a breeder or a vet.

Whippets are NOT fragile!! They're "HUNTIN'DAWGS"!!! They can run 35mph,easily,jump 6 ft. fence, run down a rabbit or FOX(SAW one do it!!),kill small game, race, bring down a deer....

They're skin IS thin & they DO mind the cold though.
