Now I'm confessing my age here - I first saw GWTW when I was 12 years old in 1960, when it was re-released on the impending 100th anniversary or the advent of the Civil War. I was absolutely enthralled and remain so until this day.
I immediately read the book, which is quite different from the movie, but just as fascinating.
The movie print that I saw then was very yellow and old. Since then they have discovered a mint print in the salt mines in Colorado or Utah and have digitally mastered it. They are all wonderful - endlessly fascinating.
Read about the making of this epic movie also - the still photos of the filming, the test shots, and the screen tests are also fascinating. I don't know if this movie could get made today, after you read what Selznick went through to get it produced.

The character of Rhett Butler was just the author's fantasy of the "new South" as it developed after the Civil War. Actually, I have read that Clark Gable (who played Rhett) had false teeth and bad breath. If true, he was probably no fun to kiss. Still, its an enjoyable movie. However, for a movie hero I prefer Leo dI Caprio in Titanic. At the end, he died for his beloved!

Frankly, Gris, I don't give a damn!
Just Kidding!!
I love the movie too. However I am not looking for a Scarlett. Quite the opposite, someone a little less helpless.

It's my all time favorite. If you're interested, San Francisco Music Box Company has wonderful collectibles. I've got an original oil painting with Scarlett sitting on the staircase. I could watch it every day if I had the time.

No, I haven't seen the movie, though I am familiar with the story. It's not the kind of story I enjoy watching. I know that many people do love it!
