It is normal. Teenagers need the most sleep next to babies because of their changing bodies. Just be careful not to slack on any important responsibilities--sweet dreams!

I've got a 16 year old son who also sleeps 12 hours a day. U figured that he needed the sleep, so I don't bother him.

Do you exercize? Are you otherwise healthy? Do you take any medication? Try to establish a routine. Say go to bed at the same time everyday and keep it up for a week. If your body needs more rest, getting on a schedule might reduce the sleep you need. Good luck! Take care!

go to sleep at 10 o'clock, make an effort and wake up at 6 o'clock and exercise for 30 min at least, then take a cold shower. don't sleep during the day! do this for a week and it will get better. at your age you only need 8 hour of sleep.

It won't help to drink caffeine or take things to try to stay awake. Eventually, you will just crash on that. It might help to have a physical just to make sure everything is okay. It could be the changing hormones. The other reason may be depression or diet. If you are eating well and generally not depressed, it could just be what your body needs. I slept quite a bit as a teenager and now I have insomnia. Go figure. ;-)

You did not say if you feel lousy or sleepy all the time.
I think neeed to see a doctor to find out if you have high or low blood sugar, because both can make you feel sleepy.
You may have juvenile diabetes. when you eat and fall asleep right a way it could be due to high blood sugar.
Then you might be sleeping too long because your your sugar may be too low .
It is better to make sure what is the root cause of your problem.

Leave the shutters or curtains open a little. The sunlight will wake you. I had this problem years ago, sleeping in a totally dark room.

I used to do that when I was a teenager too. I discovered that I had depression and I was using sleep as my escape. I was ALWAYS tired. But if you don't think that is your problem you could have Mono or low blood iron.
