Because they want control and so desperately want to be apart of something thats considered by the masses to be the one and only true way. They can't stand the notion that there are other legitimate beliefs out there. They want to be the only ones.

The doctrine of "lying in order to further the Greater Truth" was started by Paul and rationalizes that it's okay to lie to unbelievers in order to lead them to the Truth of Christ.
Read the various Epistles for examples
suzanne: It is not an "unproven allegation"--it is a lie. Darwin's life is not a mystery, it was well-documented. He was never NOT a Christian. He was a Christian when he developed the the of natural selection, and the origins of Man. He never saw a conflict between evolution and God, this is a well documented fact.
"A "lie" is telling someone something you KNOW is untrue, presenting it as if it were truth"--so is presenting something as true when you haven't bothered to learn the fact. Ignorance is not an excuse--if you haven't checked your facts, then you have a responsibility to express it as your BELIEF, not a fact..
By your own definition Darwinism is NOT a lie, since the person who developed it believed it to be true.
So not only are you incorrect, but you are hypocritical to boot.

It is an unproven allegation that Darwin became a Christian. Evidently, there is some proof for each side, so we may never know conclusively.
Since there is some evidence, it's not a lie to make this statement, athough it should be "qualified;" but it's equally true (with a "qualifier") to say Darwin was NOT a Christian. A "lie" is telling someone something you KNOW is untrue, presenting it as if it were truth. This is not the case here.
What I find completely hilarious is the fact that "Darwinism," an UNPROVEN THEORY, is put out as fact, yet no one accuses atheists of being liars.
Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmmmmmm."

As a Christian, I abhor the idea of spreading lies to promote Christianity. I just use the Bible, and if people disagree, they can settle it with God. Personally, I feel anybody who does this is not really a Christian, or a Christian in name only. This person may have been misled about Darwin, based on stuff he had been told. He, himself, may have been told a lie. This, however, does not excuse it.

Simply because, with the evidence so against them, they have no other option but to lie in order to get support from children and adults who cannot look into things for themselves, of course.

That is just sad. The only thing worse than that is the number of others who believe this nonsense just because it helps their beliefs.

They aren't lying...They have faith that their ideas are the correct ones...your perception is that they're lying. I agree that the basis for Religion is a crock of bleep...I don't believe that one should live without faith though...It's where you place that faith that is a problem for many (Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc.) PEACE!
