Will he go to heaven or hell?

My last question needed to narrow this down, it seems.

Can a Catholic ignore what the pope or a priest tells him to do?

Y'all seem to be avoiding the issue. "Arguing" is far different that "disobeying."

I am referring to Catholic doctrine, not Protestant doctrine. If Catholics followed Protestant rules, they would be Protestants, no?

I think he should get a gold medallion for his service to humanity.

But I'm not in charge of this sort of stuff...

A while ago, I wanted to ask the question, 'If your priest told you to jump off a bridge, would you?' - you know, like mothers say to their kids. I had imagined a litany of intelligent responses about the relationship between peer pressure, specialist authority and thinking-for-yourself. I thought about dialogue concerning the nature of power in the Church and abuses thereof.

Then I remembered this was Y!A, and I thought of fifteen answers saying 'You think you're so funny but God will have the last laugh...' So I decided not to.

Thank you again, J_T, for being a braver man than I am...

The Pope or a priest doesn't tell us (Catholics) what to do!!! They are pretty much the same thing as Preachers for Christians except that the Pope has a higher post!
I have a question for you...why are all of your questions about God and Satan or faith, if you have a problem about deciding what to believe in get some help, and don't post offensive stuff like your other questions on this because some people could get offended by it ( i'm not talking about me)!!!

Probably nothing. The Catholic may get a response from the priest- maybe a retort or something like that. Since the Pope is "new" I am not sure what he would do, maybe bless the Catholic and say "have a nice day."

Can't you think of anything better to write about? This is kind of naive and stupid.

Nothing. Except some personal satisfaction maybe.

The Pope and priests are human. Telling them to get stuffed could be a sin, but the only unforgiveable sin as defined in The Bible is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

No he would not go to hell based on this. I know of many Catholics who have had arguments or disagreements with their priest or the Pope. We are human and we will not always agree.

We Catholics are not obliged to always agree with the Pope or our Priests. Only on matters of absolute dogma are we required to follow. Though I have not personally had any disagreements. There are also many Catholics who may not always follow teaching and we call these Cafeteria Catholics. I myself follow the Church wholeheartedly.

Probably not. It would depend on several matters.

1. Is it a sin, a violation of the law of God? Is the priest or Pope saying something reasonable? God gave us brains and He (or She) expects us to use them.

2. Does it concern a grave (very important) matter? Or is it a small thing?

3. Do I have full knowledge of the gravity of the action? Or am I sick, on drugs, or not in full use of my faculties?

4. Am I acting on my own, of my own free will? Or am I being coerced in some way to tell him to buzz off?

Not just any sin will send you straight to hell. Only mortal sins can do that. A mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.

With love in Christ.

No one will go to hell because they told a priest or the pope to buzz off. The heathen will go to hell for murder, rape, adultery, lust, theft, lying, etc. Sin is not getting into an "argument." Rather, "sin is the transgression of the Law" (1 John 3:4). If we really care about the lost, we will become missionaries and take the good news of God’s forgiveness in Christ to them.

Nothing. Some Catholics seem to believe the Pope is God. They treat him like he has all the answers, but only God has that.

The priest and pope can't tell you what to do. You must take the lessons from the bible and choose for yourself. God gave us freewill so that we may learn, not only from him but from our own mistakes. You won't go to hell for having a voice.

Only, if you mistreat and harm others.

Many people have told Popes and Priests Buzz off. Popes and priests are humans who make mistakes. Heaven or hell is for people it was prepared for. Christianity is all about loving each other.

If they say it disrespectfully, it's a sin, but it's no more damning than any other sin, the same salvation will work for it as for all other sins. If they're saying it because they just don't believe that what the priest or pope is saying is right, then the can't be blamed; blind faith is never a good thing, faith needs to have a basis.
