If a date gives out a simple compliment like, "you're a good dancer." or "I like that shirt on you," how should a guy properly respond? An automatic reciprocal compliment would seem insincere, "Yeah, you're a good dancer, too."

A simple Thank you, or even a thank you I did it just for you (said with the wicked grin and a wink) <---- only really works if shes got a nice sense of humor.
or you could go the other way and pull the "this old thing " routine its shows apprieciation yet its funny.
like.....oh wow you are a great dancer....
thank you im trying my best to impress you, is it working? Stupid but it could get her laughing. which always leads to more conversation. either that or youll get "the look" which is bad. if you think shes gonna pull "the look" just say thanks.

Don't be a loser man, be a winner. Just be sort of cocky and say something to the effect of, "of course," but laugh it off and that way she simultaneously sees that you are not some pathetic sycophant who will idolize her to boredom death but a confident person, who also has a humble side but shows a sense of humor as well. Just don't go and talk about yourself a lot as well or anything - she will know that you received and appreciated the compliment and that you don't have ego insufficiency's. It works all the time, just be sure to show that you're kidding in good taste. And no, if you complement her, do it only occasionally, (not even once every time you see her,) but on things that matter (at least to her). If she has a problem with that, then she's a never ending tunnel of insecurity; if not, your complements will come across as more heartfelt. Also, if you can, joke in a way that complements her back - i.e. good dancer - "it takes two," and the like.

just say thank you and try to blush a little. girls like that. lol. if she gives you a compliment, make a mental note to give her one later! or try to give her the compliment first!

Say thank you of course, but don't be cocky, be modest. If you can truly return the compliment do. But don't just say it becasue you feel it's the right thing to say. Don't be fake.

You could try a thank you and compliment her back. Atleast that's what seems natural to me.

Smile and say thank you. Try and complement her back, girls like that, but be sincere and dont just dont completement her because you think its the right thing to do.Dont be cocky, just be yourself and stay relaxed!

if a girl ever gives u a complement always reply with a complement back make sure u dont say sum stupid but trust me that almost always works:)

Then, find something about them to compliment...later.
