I have rented a villa, and the view while great. I am concerned that
walking or carrying bags will be tough

Positano is a vertical town. The walk to the beach is beautiful - winding through that ancient town - but it can be daunting. It's a real workout (walking back up). The good news is that there are many cafe and shops along the way and you can make it a very enjoyable experience. I've been there several times (once as a child and twice as an adult). It was an easier walk in 1968.

Leave your bags in the villa.
If you can afford a villa then you will be able to afford someone helping you with your bags, won't you.

It's a workout when you're carrying bags simply because of all of the climbing and coblestone roads. It's worth it though!
