Either you are born that way (your mom was Jewish) or you can be "converted" by a Rabbi in some reform or conservative synagogues. At least, they believe in conversion. Most Rabbis will say no though if you ask, you must be persistant.
I am a Messianic Jew (but raised normal-type Jewish), my beliefs are weird compared to Jews as well as Christians.
My recommendation would be to read the Torah (the first 5 books of your Bible) if you really want to get into it, don't become a Jew just because you read some other book. Also, you should read up on Messianic prophesy. It is my opinion that if one honestly loves God and searches for Him and knows His heart, He will be lead to His son, Yeshua (aka Jesus, kthx.)
Good luck.

Read "Who is a Jew":

If you converted to Judaism, you would fall in the category of a person without Jewish parents who has converted to Judaism.

If you are worried about insulting someone, then you'll never choose. Religion is a personal choice. One person. One choice. Only you can make that decision.
