If Catholics are required to follow rules dictated by the pope, doesn't that make him their real God?

If a Catholic tells the pope or a priest to buzz off, will he still go to heaven?

In the "Elizabethan World Picture" a book about the cosmology of England around Shakespeare's time, the king was god's representative on earth and had a direct line to god. So whatever king said god meant, well... And so I think that here we see a similar case with Catholicism that was like Anglicanism back then. You know we can observe and say that Catholics idolise false prophets as they have many saints and such but if we look at other types of Christianity we can see that this type of thing occurred in the past.

I'm a Catholic convert and I do pay attention to the Pope and the Vatican. When I converted, I accepted all parts of the Roman Catholic faith - that's what you do when you do the Profession of Faith.

We are required to follow his rules, but, NO that doesn't make him our God. The rule of man is different from the rule of God, the two should never be confused. He is the successor of Peter in a direct line of succession. A good Catholic would follow the Pope, the doctrines of the Church, the magesteriums, etc - because they are all based upon the bible.

The commandments, which are different from the rule of man, that we follow are from God. We follow the 10 commandments as found in the Old Testament and we follow the 2 commandments set forth by Jesus, which basically encompass all of the 10 commandements of the Old Testament if followed.

Ultimately, we are to obey the Word of God above anything else. We are Christian, first and foremost and Jesus is our life, our love, our Saviour and redeemer.

Hope this helps... There's a lot out there, but I've already taken up a lot of room here. If you want some more information, feel free to email me at bribean70@yahoo.ca

God bless you!

PS: If a priest, or even the Pope asked me to do something that was a sin, I would tell him where to go and how to get there. However, if he asked me to do something that caused no offense, then I would do it.

OMG!!!
You told you that?? Or what makes you think that way??? I know, mayb bcoz he's just a leader, binding every1 together. Working out immensely.....and you keep turnin a blind eye at the facts of the *work* done by the vatican.
everybody needs leaders, does tht mean u worship george bush???
the pope is not a dictator, he doesn't create rules, only plans out tasks for the good of mankind.
eg, there was some religious violence in india, after the pope entered the scene n tried to curb it, it considerably subsided.
As a Christian, i only experience god personally. it doesn't matter if ur a catholic or a protestant or JW or something else.

Not at all. The Pope is a spiritual leader. A Catholic won't be excommunicated for not following the Pope's teaching (that used to be the case, but certainly not now) or for speaking out against the Pope's policies.

For example, I know of several priests and nuns (not to mention lay people!) who vehemently dislike the current Pope. This doesn't make them bad Catholics; it makes them vital parts of the Catholic community.

p.s.- don't forget, we don't believe that the Pope is always infallible!

Dear sir, I am a Catholic and although I hold the Pope in high esteem I do not worship him. He is a man and a tool of God a servant. I know of no Catholic who does worship him. We don not follow all that he says. He seldom speaks on matters of such great importance and even then he cannot change tradition or scripture. I fear you are believing and spreading lies about the Church that we Catholics hold dear. I pray that you may come to know the truth and I pray that God will forgive your hate and your slander that you innocently spread.I also do not know why you hate us Catholics so but if one of us has harmed you in any way please accept my deepest apology.
Peace of Christ be with you,
Debra

And we do not worship Mary or any other Saint!

Yes, the pope is our god. We sacrifice animals to him so that he might make it rain and satisfy our parched fields. Benedict is my shepard, I shall not want.

Just because the Catholic Church makes the claim that the pope is infallible doesn't make him God. He is our leader.

The analogy that I would make is-
bible: constitution
pope:president
God: spirit that the nation was founded under

Just because the Bible granted him power (according to some) doesn't make him an equivalent to God.

I hope that is somewhat clear, and i apologize if you read this answer before I edited it. Until I looked at your resolved questions, I thought you were one of "those" people that bash on Christianity to get a rise out of people.

I'm a converted Catholic. The only rules I follow are in the Bible. I really don't pay any attention to the Pope.

The "rules" are not dictated by the Pope. The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and therefore the chief Bishop so to speak. The "Rules" are from the Bible. And 2000 years of Biblical scholars have studied the Bible to correctly interpret what it means for our daily lives.

The quick answer isn't always the right one.

No, not at all. What is makes him is just a man, that has a thousand year old religion, and it followers, believing in him as a messenger of God. It is not the pope that has the people hoodwinked but the religion.

God bless

I'm catholic .. and no he isn't considered God, were did you come with that idea? he is only like an ambassador..

Like saint Peter was the first pope did they think of him as god? no , just the leader of the church.. he is the rock of the church that jesus founded... and survived many years , romans etc
because something build by God will never be broken.

And its not some sect that you christians have. its the real church of jesus.
