Unlike some cancers, lung cancer in the majority of cases is not considered an inherited disease. However, lung cancer in a close relative does increase the risk somewhat.

For the most part, lung cancer is an acquired disease caused from exposure to toxins in our environment such as cigarette smoke or certain chemicals.

So, you are at a slight increased risk from heredity, but mostly just because you smoke.

Of course you are at risk for lung cancer, but it has nothing to do with your family's genes. The risk is completely self-inflicted in this situation.

Its not the genes that will kill you, its the smoking...You can't change your grandma...you can quit smoking.

WHen you are 52 and get diagnosed with lung cancer, don't blame your graany or genes blame your self!...better yet...QUIT SMOKING!!!!!!!
