Not in my experience. Teachers are different now than they were when I was in school. My son missed 9, yes 9, homework assignments in Science. I got no letter, no note, no phone call. Nothing. Not even a paper saying he wasn't eligible for sports. I found out about a week before school was out. They didn't bother to even call me. Ridiculous! If I had known, his butt would have been grounded and he would have been doing those assignments. I wasn't concerned because I thought I had no reason to be. He had a tutor and was supposedly doing his work in that 2 hours after school. I still don't know what they were actually doing, but it sure wasn't homework. This was a school appointed tutor and they met in a classroom after the last class. We'll just say every classroom on that floor knew I wasn't happy.

My teachers cared for me alot. I went to a private Catholic school and I always remember how much the teachers cared and wanted to help. They got to know you and your families. Over half our teachers that had taught us in the past even came back to our graduation ceremony.

Most teachers do, or that's what they are supposed to be there for. It may not always seem like it. But most do because they want to help their students, not because of the money, never because of the money.

I think that most teachers start out this way, but after putting up with the kids' behavior and not really being able to do anything about it, they begin to hate them.
