First, the black will wash out a little....even the permanent dye. So that should help. I would go for a medium brown ash, or if you want some reddish color go with a golden brown. It should lighten up without much problem.

If your hair is black now and you want to be dark or med brown I would go with a light brown hair dye. I have brown hair and am always wanting to go lighter and darker. So I do alot of experimenting!

Definitely go to a professional for that. Black is a hard color to get rid of or cover up (take it from a girl who was stuck with it until the black hair grew out!)

The best thing for you to do is to try temporary colors this way you can decide which color fits you best, just remember the more you color and/or treat your hair the more damage you do to it,condition often!
Good Luck!

You need to go to a professional hairdresser and have them remove it gently withe their products. Do not attempt to do this at home or with drugstore brands. My mom did the same and it was a disaster.

You can try a shampoo cap. Mix professional strength peroxide(40 volume) with equal amounts of shampoo.

you'll have to bleach it out. but dont do that yourself because it will turn ginger. so go to a professional, then they will bleach it and then colour it the colour you want. either that or let it grow out and then dye it
