puppy chow, dont feed human food to the dog as this will only cause obesity. just let him grow up a bit, they usually all go thru a lean start to their life and then as they get older they build up. Keep him on the lean side, its healthier

He's still a puppy, so give time & he will grow and get big & strong soon enough. Just enjoy his puppy hood as it doesn't last very long.
But in terms of food, I certainly wouldn't recommend feeding Puppy Chow as they contain by-products...ingredients that aren't fit for dogs to eat. It might say "real grade chicken, beef...," but all in all, it's mystery meat. And would you eat mystery meat or something that smells? No, right. Then, don't subject your puppy to these food. Food that are sold at the supermarket, big chain stores like Costco, Walmart or chain pet stores are pretty much junk food.
For more on what you think you're really feeding your dog...or that mystery meat stuff....read the following:

Click on the link for some good, and I mean good dog food. They contain ingredients that you would want to eat.

Good luck & have fun with your puppy.

LOL. Why do you want an overweight, non-athletic dog with joint problems? There is no way that puppy is pure-bred because true American Pit Bull Terriers are usually around 30 lbs, the big ones pushing it at 50. His daddy has mastiff or something in him. Not a real pit bull. Think of what these dogs were originally bred to do. They are athletes. Not fat tanks that can hardly walk down the driveway without loosing their breath.
Anyways, just love your little mutt like he is. I'm sure he's a sweetie and be proud of him for what he is. Fat dogs aren't healthy, it's tough on their heart and joints. And true pits are skinny, tough, and small. ;)

Puppys grow up until about 8 months or so then they stop getting taller and fill out up until they are about two.
Feed your puppy the highest quality diet you can afford to feed him. Check out www.spoiled-rotten-pets.com and look as some of the food they recommend. It is some ofthe best available.
Spend lots of time playing a training with you dog. The more her runs and plays the more muscle mass he will build.
High quality food will provide everything he needs to build muscle mass and will have everything he would need nutrition wise for a healthly body.

I would feed him a puppy food till he is about a year and a half. Stay away from the cheap stuff like kibbles and bits, pedigree, and mostly everything sold in grocery stores. some really good foods are Royal Canin, Innova, California Natural, Healthwise, and any other food with no corn and no by-products. They may cost a little more but they are worth it, they are so much better for your dog.

all you can do is make sure that he is eating a healthy food. The first ingredient in many good dogs foods is some kind of meat, chicken, beef, pork. And i mean actual meat, not a meat by-product. Also, don't give him table scraps because that is very unhealthy. You also don't want him to be too chubby because then he will be unhealthy. Perhaps he is just thinner than his parents because of his young age, he could have a fast metabolism.

I would start of by having him wormed by the vet. Worms will make a dog skinny now matter how much he eats. Make sure that he is up to date on all of his shots so that he will not come sown with something. Then feed him a high quality dog food at least two times a day.

Ask the vet. People can answer that all day long and you may get a hundred and one different answers, but there's no answer to compare with that of a pro. If you don't have a vet, you should get one. Always have your pets checked out and keep their medicines, etc. up to date. If someone else is doing shots, etc., the vet would still be happy to answer the question...just call him and give him all the info you listed. I wouldn't want to chance giving him anything that wasn't professionally advised. Good luck

Just feed him a quality food. He will grow normally. DO NOT--I REPEAT DO NOT feed him a calcium supplement! He can get hip displasia if his bones grow faster then his joints and muscles do. I am a Lab breeder, of 12 years, I know! Just allow him to grow at a normal pace. Many dog's heads continue to grow for 3-4 years, so be patient.

give the pup some time to grow. make sure he stays wormed and watch that he gets his own food. the others might be taking it away from him.
and maybe try giving him more food at a time. he might be needing more than what you are giving him. i kept food out all the time for mine and he is huge. when they are raised with food all the time, they dont overeat when they do get fed. if you only feed once a day, they tend to overeat and make themselves sick because they dont know when they will eat again.
