See, when we started it, we were only in the 6th grade, so it was kinda a sudden thing. We raised some money. But, I don't know. I guess it was all the bad comments that put me down till the point where I just quit.
But i love dogs more then what people think about me.

Check with people who run an organization like that. Usually you will need donations to keep a place like that running. You are NOT going to get rich doing that. You may not make any money at all. If you have free time on your hands and want to do this from your heart and not worry about $$, then go ahead. But always always first research something new.

Definately a great idea, because there are so many strays out there these days. I would do the same thing if I had the money and the property to do it with. But the only difference for me is that I would rescue cats and I currently have rescued 3 cats in the past 4 years. I currently have 5 cats, 2 I have adopted, 1 I got from my friends cats litter of kittens, 1 is a kitten from a stray cat I rescued and the other is a kitten I rescued about 1 month and a half ago.

I have been working on this myself for a while... I have always taken strays in when they were around or something... but I am almost to the point of being a REAL rescue center for animals of al kinds... I recommend that you get a 501(c) # from the IRS. This gives you the power to give tax deductions when they donate something. If you cant offer this, they will go to one who does, and you will not be in business for very long. It is just too expensive to run a rescue with out donations. Also!! VERY IMPORTANT>> dont give deductions to people adopting dogs... this can end up in people needing tax deductions getting dogs from you... just for the tax benefit, and disposing of the dog afterwards... If you want more info on other great ideas to make it successful, let me know.

It sounds like a great idea! There should be more people out there that are willing to do that. The only things you would need would be how you are going to fund it.....(female animals are more expensive to fix than males, and shots aren't cheap either) and somewhere to house them until they can be adopted. You can also check into your local government agencies to see what kind of money you can get for a nonprofit organization that will help to improve not only the quality of life for the animals but also better your community.

Good luck!!!!

It is a bit of a mamoth task fraught with difficultes and dangers. Highly honourable though, I would volunteer at one of the many sinliar organisations and speak to their staff. Shots cost, room for dogs costs. Fundraising should be your first call, if you can raise say 10 months of operating money in two then it sounds viable. Set a limit to the amount of dogs as conservatively as possible. If you can handle 40 dogs per month then set a limit at 30 to give yourself room for breathing should someone turn up with a litter of adorable pups that would be drowned otherwise.

Good luck

Sure, just make sure that you learn all of the laws and tax requirements surrounding starting a Foundation. (Or get someone who knows all of that, namely a lawyer and a really good accountant). It's absolutely a great idea to want to change the world for the better!

That's how many rescue groups start. So no it's a great idea.
the lady I adopted my dog from started with saving one dog and she is now very known in her town.
She has foster homes for all the dogs, so they do not have to be in a shelter.

All great things start with a dream!

I actually think it is a good idea. Something like that will cost you a LOT of money. If it is something you are passionate about, than I say go for it.

Best of luck to your endeavors. If you get a German Shepherd Dog, be sure to drop me a line. I want one. ;-)

It is a good thing you are trying to accomplish - it is very costly and you need proper licenses and the proper facilities and equipment - you'll need to check your city/county/state guidelines - maybe you should try to foster some first and get some advice down the road on how to start one yourself.
