Am I too tall for my age?

Im 58 1/2 inches and im going into the 5th Grade. A lot of people call me long neck and giraffe girl. I think giraffe girl is a cute name, but it is still is hurtful when people tease you. I've gotten back at the people who tease me but they TELL ON ME (what babies!) and I get in a lot of trouble. What should I do?

You are tall and that is great but you shouldn't people get to you . Let them call you what ever they want , it's just a sign that they are intimidated by you , you should be glad

No, 58 1/2 inches is actually pretty short.I don't know why they would be calling you long neck, if you are only 4'10 an a half huh.

That is really tall. I too was pretty tall compaired to others my age.I am 5'8 and in my 20's now so,it evened out you might just stay that way now or keep growing.I quit growing at about the 5th grade.

I wouldn't let what others say hurt you,they are just unhappy with something about their selfs and use you to make them feel better.

You're normal. They're jealous.

Look at your family - are they all on the tall side? If so, that's your genetics.

When I was a kid, there were two sisters in our town that were basketball stars, they were both well over six feet tall. I'm sure they took a lot of teasing as kids, but then once they hit high school and lead the baskeball team to six (they were allowed to play varsity in jr. high) state championships, they were treated like GOLD.

Chew on this: I know it hurts when they tease you (I've gotten teased for the opposite problem, I'm short. Not even 5 feet tall.) but if you have something you excel in, they'll be kissing your shoes eventually. Not to mention - all the supermodels out there - they have to be AT LEAST 5'9" to get work. Any shorter than that, and they get shoved out the door.

And remember this: the best revenge is to live well. Karma will get those who tease you.

The boys will start catching up with you in middle school. I was the tallest person in my grade until then. Most of the girls won't catch up with you, tho'.

You'll probably end up being pretty tall. Genetics are weird sometimes, so you never know for sure until you get there. You'll stop growing up at about 18 years old, and stop filling out when you hit 20.

Embrace your beauty and stay positive, those kids are just mean and they want to be as tall as you and that's why they tease you. Tyra Banks was teased when she was in school and they called her giraffe girl and she's a beautiful model now. Good luck and remember your beautiful!

People grow difrently. A woman i know stoped growing in 7th grade because she was so tall. Sooner or later people will be taller then you. Laugh w/ them if they say long neck say ya like a giraffe they will know your ok with it so they might stop.

So you are 4'10.5"? No thats not to tall. When I was in fifth there were people in my class who were like 5'2" so dont worry. As for the teasing and tormenting, at your age, you should tell a trusted adult about whats going on.

Don't worry about it, really. When you're older, most men... shoot most people give more respect to taller woman then shorter. It's not fair, but it's true. I had size 13 1/2 shoe when I was 12 yo, I'm now 6'4" tall, you'll grow into your height as I did my feet.

I was the tallest girl in my class for a long time because I had my growth spurt before the other girls. Don't worry about it. Think of the models and tennis players, they are all 6' or taller.
