This woman, obviously not a happy person, shot herself with a shotgun blast to the stomach to kill her unborn child. Unfortunately her full term baby died in via this violence. Does it not seem absurd that one can kill ones own child all the way up to the very day of birth and get away with murder? With this particular issue society is very very sick indeed to allow such things to happen with little or to no penalty. This incident just goes to show how absurd our ideas are on what a constitutionally protected person is. To me this is not even a hairs difference to going into the delivery room after birth and then blowing her child away. I really hope we wake up spiritually. This issue is of current America's worst systematic manifestation of spiritual sickness.

half insane, I actually don't believe in the death penalty in her case. I do not think she will even be convicted of much. The most they'll make her do some mental rehab program, or even some probation. I doubt she'll get murder or even man slaughter.

iu_runner, it sounds like you are pro-choice up to the point of viability. This is not too uncommon of a view. But constitutionally a person is not a person until the head exists the vaginal opening. This is how partial birth doctors can get away with killing viable children. They reverse the child, which is dangerous in itself, deliver it feet first, and then hold the head in by the neck and do their worse. Actually abortion is legal in every state at all stages. The only difference is late term abortions have to be done in a hospital rather than a clinic.

cindy, though it would not be fun if I were the judge in the very least I would commit her to a mental institution for an indefinite period of time. I would also give her other children, which by the way she has, to a responsible minded adult. And yes, I wouldn't lose sleep over giving her jail time, though i think she is already in the jail of hellish mindset. I hope she finds her way out soon.

revdebibrady, you or i can feel free to forgive her or anyone we want for that matter, i.e. Ted Bundy, Hilter, Stalin, etc. But that's not the point. And my point is not how this case is handled either because obviously the authorities want to do at least something. The point is I just know this woman will get leniency because her baby was not born yet. This prejudice has been judicially legislated into the system. Not only is the foundation of federal law on the rights of the unborn immoral, it is not even an overwhelming majority at that; Not that that is always a litmus test for morality as the majority is a form of might, & I do not believe might makes right.

Pattycake wa..., I agree she should not get the death penalty as that will not solve anything. It is a possibility she was trying to kill herself. I did not think about that at the time, so thank you for showing me this. In the least this woman needs a mental hospital. But as You & I have said, if this was premeditated then she should spend time in jail for murder. I think thinking about her actions during this time will be punishment enough. One thing is for sure, it is a tragedy all the way around.

My apologies, I had a family emergency & did not get to finish my answer......

If this woman is tried for murder it should be 1st degree since obviously it was premeditated. But we should also look at the issue at hand: Did she want to die with her unborn child? I think she wanted to die. Anyone who shoots themselves with a shotgun has intentions of dying. That is a big blow. I know this because my uncle was shot with a shotgun at close range to his shoulder and he died. So why would someone want to shoot themselves in the stomach if they didn't think they were going to die? (experience: my mother shot herself in the stomach in hopes of dying however she only had a pistol and she almost died but instead got 6 months in mental housing.) So...
1.) If she had only intentions to kill her child, she should get murder; In Arkansas, if you harm a woman who is pregnant & the baby dies, that is murder..so no difference if the mother does it or not. I however don't think she should be sentenced to death, sentence her to life in prison. God will charge her accordingly.
2.) If her motive was to kill herself & her unborn child, then everything in this woman's life should be looked thru with a magnifying glass. I've always heard the saying: suicide is against the law.. Wake up>>if the person dies are they talking about man's law or God's law? >>Now if the person lives, do the officials look at it as attempted murder of oneself instead of suicide or do they automatically sentence the person to a mental institution for attempting suicide? <<
This is a terrible situation and it will be even harder for the officials to make sure they do the right thing according to man's law. Because everyone knows that according to God's Law, murder is a sin. I have not read the story thoroughly because of the situation at hand last night but I am going to read it after this is posted because I do not think it will have any effect on what I have said. I can't say that after reading it that I will or will not post more opinion. Next time I will make sure that I read the story before posting. I automatically assumed that she was in a mental hospital or at least in a holding cell in jail. This furiates me:
"Legislation to protect pregnant women & unborn children from violence, which has been strongly promoted by pro-life organizations, routinely exempts any action by the pregnant woman herself. The exemption is included to protect women from being charged in cases of accidents that may result in injury or death to her baby."
This woman tried to blame someone else of shooting her!!! Now that is bullshit, the officers that were called to the scene of the crime should have checked her hands for powder burns. Apparently he was a newbie. This woman either planned to kill herself & her child or she is schizophrenic. What I mean by that is she was one of her other selves when doing the shooting and then came back after the blow & that someone had shot her..
I think this woman should be charged with permeditated murder and to spend the rest of her life in jail. I don't agree with killing her because then she can not live with the memories day in and day out for what she has done. God will charge her accordingly in the new coming.

If the State in which a pregnant woman resides has this as a capital offense, it has the right to try her as such. This is not a matter of 'spiritual sickness'...but of how far some people are willing to go to abort themselves. It is sad; she must have been very disturbed at the time she shot herself and the baby. "In Virginia, it refers to someone who has killed 'the fetus of another.' (see 'right' article below) "The judge tossed the abortion charge based on defense arguments that cases filed under similar laws in Florida and Georgia had been dismissed." ('left'?) You accuse 'society' of being sick because of the way this case is being handled? The real issue here is does she deserve forgiveness by society if God is willing to forgive her...for the asking? That is up to the individual...free will...since forgiveness is, indeed, divine...

Murder is murder...birth is not the beginning of life, it's the arrival.

She murdered another person and should be tried as such. It doesn't matter that the person she killed was her baby, the child was a gift, a blessing to be cherished.

If she were assaulted (by an outside party) and the child died, the attacker would be tried for murder. Why would she not be tried for the same?

A truly sad situation...

Grace to you and God Bless...

I'm pro-choice, but were the wounds in fact self inflicted, I would call this a murder case. The infant could have survived outside of the womb at it's stage, so it's a very difficult case for the prosecutors with the current laws.

What is wrong with our society to allow this woman to have a child anyways? I agree that this is murder, but the woman was obviously deranged. I wish that there was some way to make sure that only suitable parents could ever have children. People with metal illnesses do not make good parents if they cannot control their illness.

WOW

It is in stories such as this , that I am very grateful that I am not the judge nor the jury.

God knows all, and he knows her heart and her intent, she cannot change those things, so he alone will judge regardless of what we may or may not do as a society.

May GOD show mercy upon her soal.

This is a very intense and emotional story. I think we need to walk a mile in her shoes first and then decide on the evidence presented. Innocent for now.
