My doctor said I'm going through my period NEXT YEAR OR SOMETIME THIS YEAR and I'm going into fifth grade! My mom told me what a period was and it sounded odd and scary. Im sacred and nevous. What should I do?

P.S. I tried relaxing, but that made me more nervous.

It is a natural part of life. Believe me, once you get yours and are older, there will be times you can't wait until it comes. I think you can go to tampax.com or platex.com and gets lots of important info as well as free samples. Don't be scared, you will be fine!

This is a normal time for beginning your menstruation. Your body is changing into that of a young woman, but there will be more years of adjustment ahead. It can be really exciting if you start imagining yourself in control Be a dreamer; see yourself in positive roles. But down to earth now, look around you - all the other girls are going through the same thing.
Modesty covers real feelings, but most have found an adult woman to answer questions. Your first period will give you warnings. Small smears of blood will show on your underwear. These can be washed out with soap and cold water. (Peroxide will remove stains.)Then you can begin wearing panty liners and your doctor or mother or lady-friend can help you learn to manage. ...............
I've found through questions with many girls & women that there's no pain unless someone else has suggested it. A dull mood with some heaviness can occur if you've not been keeping up your health. So eat right and be active in something you love - so you can get to school and wear a happy face. When you deal with life and keep an upbeat attitude, this will bring you all the rewards of womanhood. ------- People will love you.....!!!

It isn't scary, it's just irritating. You might have cramps, which do hurt a little. They ache. Some girls get them, some don't. I recommend tampons over pads. Pads feel like diapers. Also irritating. And they bulge in your pants. Use tampons. If your mom is too embarrassed to help you figure out how to use them, ask to see your doctor. If your doctor is a man, there should be an assistant, like a nurse or someone, who won't mind showing you how to use a tampon. It's easy. Just feels a little weird until you get used to them. And don't take NO for an answer. Some adults are funny about it. You can even swim with a tampon. You can't with a pad. Most tampons will probably be too big for you, so find the ones made for teenagers. The nurse can help you with that, too.

This is a really good site for information:

Go to the bookstore and get a book for girls about periods. I saw this one called the period book. I provided a link to amazon so you can get the information you need. Talk to your mom or another woman you trust, even girls that are just older than you.
It is scary the first couple of times you get it, but after that you get used to it and you can start knowing the signs your body gives you. Be sure to have more than enough pads and Tampax close at hand while you are at school. Do your best to make sure to hide them. Good Luck and Don't be scared, it really isn't that bad.

Don't be scared...it's nothing to worry about obviously you know that every women goes through it. 5th grade is a little young, I started in 8th grade. But these days girls start it younger and younger! Just make sure you tell your mom when it does happen so you can buy stuff for it. It is not any fun to have blood running out of you all day, but if your lucky they will be a breeze. Mine were always regular, no cramps, and as long as I wore the right things never had any messes. Good luck and nervous is ok, but don't be afraid of your women hood.

it is common to talk these subjects with your friends and relatives, you might as well feel nervous, you are growing up and sudden changes and growth are supposed to happen as you prepare your surroundings to become a teenager. Do not worry to get carried away and nervous, it is normal and funny about a girl. You will like other things going on around you. Remember to keep sitting on your dad´s lap and doing whatever you were doing when felt like a little girl. That is tremendous help. Your brother(s) are to keep joking with you, let it be. You are becoming flirty and naive, go for it, and won´t need relaxing or focus on being nervous. Eres una coqueta, niñita.

CONGRATULATIONS there is nothing to worry about, you are becoming a young lady. It is a good thing. Just wear a pad or even a pantiliner until you notice the blood and then put in a bigger pad and you might have cramps but they have meds for them. Don't worry because you aren't alone alot of people will be going throught the same thing.
