Being a "Yankee" northerner who has spent a bit of time in the south, I have to say the "back-woodsness" (new word) of the south is greatly exaggerated. In and around the urban areas like Atlanta, Nashville, and New Orleans, I've found most of the people to be very similar to Northerners. That changes when you get off of the main roads and into the smaller cities and burghs, these places are truly as scary and time forgotten as movies like "Deliverance" make them out to be.

The south has wonderful weather, some great people, and beautiful land. Pretty much the same factors that you'll find anywhere in the U.S.

no, it is not a bad place to live but it more of a knit community and people do more for others .. it more of a old school yet with a hip-hop twist to it .. if u been to Atlanta .. it's a party like nobody business ..of course everywhere we go there gonna be drama involve but if u want to live in a peaceful place u can find it south yet the north has alot to offer than the south employment wise .. other than that u can find jobs down there yet it never measure up to the west ,east coast or the north .. as they say ..i would live south one day it beautiful and not as noisy as the rest of the hottest spot in the u.s.but as far as what went on not long ago i would stay up north .. not gonna take the chances with the weather that my main thing the weather we cant control mother nature it nice to visit .

Of course not. If you go to a city in Florida for a example: St.Petersburg; then you can say South of St.Pete is poorer, and more dangerous than the North of St.Pete, but the thing is every state, or city will have its good and bad sides. Bad may be considered poor, dirty, rude, and unaccepting, but where in America will you not find that. Even New York (north) is a prime example of a place with its good and bad areas. You just have to explore it yourself to really judge what you feel about it. To tell you the truth, even I a originally born New Yorker has much enjoyed Southern states. They have such a different culture, and way of expressing themselves. I definitely would recommend you to check it out. One of my absolute favorite Southern state would be Georgia. They have wonderful nature spots with gorgeous trees, luxurious flowers, and a huge rock that looks like a mountain there. Please do check it out.

Depends on where. In some areas people tend to be slower and twice as ignorant (example: bible belt), but there are great places in the south also. Personally I like urban areas best because of the varied culture.

have lived in metro-Atlanta for many many years. For me, it's grown old and bit dull. Economically and climatewise, it's hard to beat though. Too bad it's so dang far away from a really nice beach.

I'm so glad for the airport though. I travel frequently.

There's good and bad everywhere, but the south comes up short in most areas. They always rank last in education, rank high in poverty and crime, and in my opinion, rank pretty low in social skills.
