A recent question asked about the logistic ramifications of The Flood.

One of the answers was: "It's easier not to question. Just believe it. Hurts your head a lot less."

Is this seriously how some of you think? Isn't this an acceptance of ignorance and a refusal to challenge anything?

When an atheist says that Christians have no mind of their own, I think that this is where that stereotype originates.

Obviously most of you do not feel this way, but I'd like to hear from those of you who do, who accept blindly whatever you are told, so as to have your "head hurt a lot less."

Do you not see the error in this way of thinking? Defend this position.

And you think it's only Christians who refuse to question things???
How many people are there who believe in Evolution, simply because that's what they were taught to believe????
Let's be realistic about this, most of us simply don't have the brains or even the time, to figure out how exactly things work. An astronomer can look at the stars and know what he is actually looking at. We on the other hand, can choose between believing what astronomers have discovered or studying astronomy ourselves, something that would take years and go beyond the learning capabilities of most people!
Bottom line, we all believe in things that we haven't discovered for ourselves. Most of our beliefs are based on other people's understanding of nature!
I think only few people have the intelligence to properly question anything!
That is true for Atheists, Christians and everybody else!
Even years of studies and questioning will not necessarily lead you to the truth! Which scientist was it that said "I know now, that I know nothing" at the end of his life? Einstein?
I actually think it's easier for an "unbeliever" to go through life without questioning things. The Christian lifestyle requires a lot of commitment! It also requires sacrifices! It's sort of like a marriage.....
Those who aren't sure about their faith, according to my experience, will eventually fall away.

We all have to choose what we want to believe in. As for myself, I have made my choice and it's not based on any scientific discovery, it's based on the fact, that when I called out to God, He answered me and my life hasn't been the same since!
What about you? Do you believe in Evolution because you have studied Archeology and Geology and Biology or because you believe the word of scientists who have? If it's the lattter, then you should at least listen to what the Christian scientists have to say on the subject!

You are right many Christians believe blindly many because of their parents. Some are just like well our preacher seems smart i bet he is right. Some well the people here are real nice I'm sure they know what they are talking about. Also well the priest take care of my sins for me and I'm sure that's in the Bible because they have told me so. (sorry catholics) Some are like well these people are rich so they must know the truth and that's why God blessed them. Alot of people also choose certain churches because they preach a message they like, for example once saved always saved cause then you can just be baptized and then sin the rest of your life and your safe.

You make a very good point, but there are many things which can not be answered by reading the Holy scriptures. Like the flood cause honestly it is far fetched, but we don't believe blindly. I know it happened because God has proved his existence to me through the Holy Ghost. It took lots of prayer and study but It did happen and it is a great comfort to me.

Good question!! People seriously need to think about why they believe what they believe, life is more than working and partying you have a greater responsibility here.

Every one at some point in their lives just wants to take the easy way and believe because the alternative is hurting your head.

OK, this usually is a temporary state of being, but I bet even Einstein had moments when he said to himself, "Self, don't open that can of worms yet ... your head needs rest" ... or something like that ... It's just human nature to have moments of weakness.

I agree that the people who perpetually live in this state are sponges , but they are not limited to Christianity. You just meet a doof-sponge.

Yes, I think its an error in thinking. Things should be questioned, answers should be sought, or you have no basis to back up a claim. Having said that, however, there are some things you just dont have answers for, and in that realm comes faith. Whne all avenues have been explored, when all questions that can be answered have been, and yet there is still no just answer, a conclusion must be drawn, be it opinion, be it faith, whatever. And this line of thinking does not just fall into religion.

first we have to remember that any religion is agaisnt education. We did not had dark ages for nothing and all knowlege we aquire only after ppl got away from religion.

The whole idea of religion is to be blind. Religious leaders do understand this problem and trying to prevent any kind of education.
If ppl will start gets education they will eventualy have questions and than whole base for religion will fall. Who needs it?
Its easier to control one idiot than bunch of smart ppl. The idea is united every religious freek under one roof so it won't take much to control it.
Therefore GOD prohibit education.

The only way to believe is to not think about it, otherwise it takes a lot of circular reasoning and a dose of Pascal's wager. It's really not healthy.

it's really only possible to completely believe in the Biblical God when you don't ever think about it.
