DISCIPLINE. Good ol fashioned spank in the behind. Its sad to live in a world where the parents are afraid of their kids. They fear that they will be bad parents, they fear that society will deem them immoral. Thats bull. Its OK as long as you dont overdue it. Teach your baby that this is wron NOW becuase if he gets used to this, as he grows older he will think it is ok.

At 1 year he has not yet started to develop a sense of empathy. For this reason the baby hitting you really says nothing bad about the baby except that it has yet to learn that this behavior is unacceptable.

If you overreact the baby is likely to find it humourous. So telling that baby how much he hurt mommy is not likley to help. Timeouts are likely to help but it depends on if its a 12 month old or a 18 month old. Probably if the child is younger just stopping interaction would work. "Mommy cannot play with you if you hit."

But don't worry to much. When the baby is 2-1/2 or so it'll start to realize that it is hurting you and then disipline (yimeouts) will mean more...

Don't listen to tishalynn, spanking is the only way to deal with children like that, but first u should try taking toys away twice, time-outs around 5 times and from then on out spankings all the way.

There are a few things that work. For me, I spanked my son and told him that its not acceptable behaviour. Do not buy him stuff that he can hit. You cannot reason with a young child. Don't spank him hard, just enough to know that you mean business. My sons are now 7 & 9 and I have not had to spank them for years now because they know that I mean business. There is consequences to there action. Every notice 50 years ago that people could leave there door unlocked and night with no fear and now we are alarmed. That is because parents discplined there kids with spanking. Now look at what we are living in because people don't. They believe its abuse and we can talk it out. What crap. Kids don't listen. whats a time out or a scolding. They know its gonna be over in a few minutes.

Hitting out why? When he doesn't get his way? If that's the case you need to put a stop to it now girl. His mind is developing and absorbing and tremendous amount of information at that age. Letting him get away with it or giving into him, teaches him that hitting gets him what he wants. As he grows that wont change, you must teach him that's wrong epically towards you.

I don't advise a beating, but if he wont stop you need to give him a smack to get his attention, you be serious, and tell him NO hes not allowed to hit you. At that age talking doest always work, your not being mean by doing that your teaching him that hitting wont get his way. Kids that grow up like that end up being those cases you hear about where the man beasts his wife to death cause she didn't cook him dinner or something. Being overtly exaggerate there...but its not entirely false.

tell him no no and that it hurts when he hits. Take away the toy he is playing with or if he is hitting kids, tell him it's time out time and put him alone in his playpen or crib.

Get him a Wobble Lion Toy, he'll love it. It will give him something that he is allowed to hit.
