If you are an american citizen and traveling AND returning by Dec. 31 2006...you do not need a passport....If you are traveling and are schedule to return after Jan 1, 2007 you WILL have to have a passport to get back into the country....
for now, a certified copy of birth with a raised seal...NOT the one with the footy prints...
This has to come from your vital statics in your state of birth.

You dont NEED a passport but if you have one take it. Its easier.
Homeland Security is not requiring Passport until 2007, but its a good idea to get one now. The immigration process, both comming and going is just easier if you have a passport. I travel to Mexico every year. Enjoy your trip!

I recently traveled to Mexico and all you need is a valid ID and your birth certificate to go to Mexico if you are a U.S. citizen, passports will only be required beginning 12-31-06

If you are a US citizen...you do not need a passport to visit MX. But you do need an original birth certificate ( with the raised seal)..not the hospital kind with footprints on it. You will also need a valid drivers license or voters registration card. Hope this helps..I work for a major airline at the airport so I am very familiar with required documents

I am leaving on saturday to go to puerto vallarta and NO you do not need one right now. I have done my research and passports are not needed until January 2007. So if you are from the US, and are planning to go this year then none is needed. All they need is an ID card and your birth certificate from the health department. Hope this helps and happy traveling!!!

If you are a US citizen, currently, you need a government issued, valid ID & a certified copy of your birth certificate (with raised seal). Effective next year, you will need a passport. this applies to Canada as well.

If you are traveling from the US and you were born in the US all you need is your birth certificate. That is all I have ever taken. It does however need to be a certified one. The one with the seal on it.

I think you'd better be safe than sorry, a lot of weird things could happen between now and the supposed end of year deadline, plus their good for five years or so, then you won't have to worry about it for awhile.
