Swimming is a great way to keep in shape during pregnancy. Hot tubs however are not safe. The idea is tha tyou are boiling the baby in your tummy. You can go knees down int eh hot tub. That is what I did but as for submerged long term exposure. Nope stick with the pool!

I would speak with the doctor really. Because each and every woman carries a baby differently. I have heard of woman who have had babies with spina bifida from being in the water. When I was pregnant, I stayed away from hot tubs and saunas. Swimming in the pool is fine though. Just don't over do it. Cannonballs are a definite no no :}

I remember my OB/GYN telling me that after a certain trimester that I shouldn't take tub baths because there's a chance of dirty tub water getting forced into the birth canal. I'd say swimming in a pool or hot tub would be the same. However, I think the advice is a little hoaky and 'old-wives-tale'. You'd have to spray water up your vagina with a carwash nozzle to force it up in there, and that ain't happening if you're just taking a bath.

Swimming:
Yes, swimming is one of the best forms of exercise during pregnancy. If you swam consistently before you got pregnant, you should be able to continue without too much modification. If you didn't exercise at all you should still be able to start swimming, but check with your doctor or midwife before you take the plunge. You'll need to start slowly, stretch well before and after, warm up and cool down gradually, and not overexert yourself.

Hot Tub:
The bottom line is that we are unsure of the precise risks of hot tub use and how these risks increase in some women and not in others. Add to this the variables of length of time exposed and temperatures and precise gestational ages, and you can understand how difficult it would be to make predictions.

I think you should definetly ask your doc, don't trust any of us with your babys life!! i guess it's different for all pregnant women and how far along you are in your pregnancy. One of my sisters was okay for a pool all the way until 8 months then her doc said no more!! and she was never allowed to go in a hot tub. So just ask be sure, cuz after all it's your baby

Swim in pools yes, hot tubs no. They tell you to stay out of the excessively hot water, not even sure that it is ok to take a hot bath. Check with your doctor first...
