I want to buy a new car, somewhere between 12,000 and 18,000 dollars, that is sporty, nice, and gets good gas mileage. I travel close to 400 miles a week between work and school and my hobbies so the car is going to be well used. Anyone know of any that fits all the categories?

I would suggest that you NOT buy a new car but consider buying a late model certified pre-owned. Since you put 20,000 miles a year+ on your car, it will depreciate rapidly. You would do much better with a used car where a lot of that depreciation has already taken place. You could also get "more" car....look for accord, camry or altima. Do not buy an american car if you are looking for low maintenance.

Go used with that mileage. But not just any used... Toyota or Honda. Check out Consumer Reports on the VW, nice product but not as reliable. Certified is the word of the day.

You can't go wrong with a used Honda (or maybe even Toyota). A well maintained Honda will last a very very long time. Very reliable, a Consumers Reports repeating Best Buy, and they hold their resale value very well. Fuel efficiency is very good (not the absolute best, but at the top with the other regular cars).

i would say a chevy cobalt, its a nice sports car, goes at 32 mpg(pretty darn good), and its only around 15000..
I would advice u to get the cobalt sedan SS becuase it has 171 horse power 2.4 engine and it comes with sports tires this is about 18,000.. there are less cobalts that arent that sportish but goes for about 14G

dude try getting a chevy cobalt, hyundai tiburon, the new civic (low on gas), mazda 6, the mitsubishi lancer. I just bought a 2005 Mustage GT at Carmax (not new but in great condition) for $17,000. Try search Carmax.com or go visit their dealer.

try autotrader.com and put in your dollar amount. toyota makes cars that get great gas mileage and depending on your state theyre pretty smog efficient. also keep repairs in mind. japanese are usually cheaper to maintain and european are a little more on the expensive side

VW Jetta is very good and relible car. IT has a good warranty too.
Some people might recommend Honda or Toyota, but VW looks and feels better.
Good Luck!
