You need to go to a drug-store and get a lice removal kit. Do it in the bath tub so they can lay down while it is processing (about 15 min).If the infestation is bad, you may need to bag up the items in contact with the lice. i.e, blankets, pillows, and clothes. By putting them in a trash bag and sealing it the lice will die. Also, if it is a young child lice is very common. You need to tell them it is important they dont play with others hair, or use other peoples hair brushes.

There is a shampoo called Derbac, which is a treatment for you and the family. It is rather smelly, but it is a registered drug available from the pharmacy in the UK. It certainly gets rid of the lice, but if you want to prevent ever getting lice again, I suggest you don't wash as they prefer clean hair.

You have to be careful with which product you use. Most contain insecticides and can be dangerous because they are absorbed in the skin. Read the labels. My granddaughter used an organic product(can't remember the name, sorry) and it was excellent. Got rid of the litle pests in one application. I remember that she had to let it stay on for 2 hours with a plastic cap over her hair. Wash all bed linens and put them in a hot dryer. Stuffed animals and other large things that can't be washed should be put in plastic bags and sealed well. Keep them sealed for 2 weeks. Vacuum well...couch, cushions, chairs etc. Lice do not come from uncleanliness like most people believe, they come from other people. Good luck, I hope this helps. One more thing...do not share combs, brushes, hats, etc.

if usual lice treatments dont work, then you could try less harmful lotions from healthshops, failing that, every day for 2 weeks, leave conditioner in hair and use lice comb and comb thoroughly as all lotions are not always effective. After that use conditioner and comb about twicw a week until lice clears.

Use a fine comb to go through the hair and then wash in medicated shampoo with the addition of Tea Tree Oil, Condition well again add Tea Tree Oil. Make sure all the combs and brushes that you use have been cleaned and disinfected. Pillow should be cleaned and have freshly laundered pillow cases.
