A debit card: no. The money is deducted straight from your checking account. A credit card: short answer: yes. longer answer: If you don't have credit, you can still get one - to build a credit history. You would have to get a co-signer for the card so that somebody on the account has a history that can be referenced.

Hi LaToya,

No, you do not need to have credit.

A debit card is connected directly to a bank account.

A secured "credit" card is also available to you without credit. You allow them to deposit a certain amount, say like $500.00, and they will allow you to use the card "like" a credit card. This is a great way to also build your credit.

Good Luck,
~Trey

No. You can get a credit card anytime you like. Just remember one thing: never charge anything to your card that you can't pay for in one payment. Otherwise, you are throwing away money on finance charges and fees.
