The words of John probably are the words of Jesus.
The only book that was allegedly written by Jesus, did not make it into the canon of the New Testament.
Of the books in the Canon of the New Testament:
Paul wrote 13 (or 14 --- if one counts Hebrews);
Luke, a convert of Paul's wrote 2 books.
James, the Brother of Jesus wrote one book.
Jude, the Brother of Jesus wrote one book;
Matthew, one of the original disciples, wrote one book;
Peter, one of the original disciples, wrote two books;
Mark, a convert of Peter's, wrote one book.
John The Apostle wrote 5 books;
Ten books were written by people who physically knew Jesus.
One book was written by a person who knew Jesus second hand.
Sixteen books were written by people who, at best, knew Jesus at third hand.
The better question is "The Words of Jesus, or The Words of Paul".

John the disciple, who was one of the 12 apostles choosen by Christ to spread the word Both were great men who taught the word of God. Jesus is the Messiah who gave his life so that we could have eternal life. Through the sacrifice of His life the punishment for our sins was paid. In ordered to receive this gift one must admit that they are a sinner, believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son and He died on the cross as payment for our sins, and confess to other your belief that Jesus is Savior and Lord. Christ spent the last three years of His life teaching of Gods love for us.

Christianity is based on Paul, not Jesus or John.
The Trinitarian doctrine was invented by Roman Emperor Constantine in 325 CE. And, his council adopted the teachings of Paul as the foundation for the Universal religion, aka "Catholic church.
