I spend a lot of time on the computer (about 7-8 hours a day just at work) and I just got glasses because I'm near sighted. I'm wondering should I take my glasses off when I use the computer? I have a habit of staying up late on the computer, surfing the net or whatever so I think that's what causes my eyesight to deteriorate in the first place.

You actually should use your glasses when on your computer. They are prescribed for use at all distances, not just distance viewing - even though that is what you have trouble with.
It is thought that too much near work is one of several contributers to being near sighted so your computer habits may have played a role in this problem. Being on the computer for long periods of time can cause eye strain so be sure to take a break every so often to look at other distances. Also, people tend to blink less when on the computer so be conscious of this as it causes dry eye.

I've had glasses for about 3-4 years for the same reason and now I have contacts. It doesn't matter what you where when you are on the computer as long as it's confortable for you. Right now I'm not wearing glasses or contacts and can see fine.

It`s true that wearing glasses decrease eyesight.

I tried to wear glasses too when I was young, and when I didn`t, I noticed that if I get used to glasses, I`ll be no more able to see so much without them.

Age deteriorates the eyes.

You can strain them with constant PC work, so you should take a break every hour or so.
