Sorry for the typo. English is not my first language.

I think for myself all the time. I evaluate and question everything, even my own religion. I'm sure many Christians disagree with me often, but that is fine by me, because I know most of them only know what they have been told, whereas I have seriously questioned and researched to come to the decisions and beliefs that I have.

Although Christians are often times portrayed as not being independent thinkers there are actually many who have come to follow Christ after deep intellectual philosophy and are quite capable of independent thought.

A truly intellectual person will consider all view points and deduce their beliefs through experience, logic, internal, and external influence.

Those who are influenced by group mentality exist within and without Christianity. Have you been influenced by a group mentality?

The bible says lean not to your own understanding.
It further says take this mind that was in Christ Jesus.
I would say that if you are operating in the mind of Christ, there isn't much information that is not available to you.
Originally man was suppose to operate with the Christ like mind but chose to operate with knowledge. You can't turn around in a 360 degree circle without seeing some of the problems with the later thinking.
The mind of Christ gives 1000% to the here and now and the natural mind cannot operate in the here and now. The mind of man without God must depend on facts pertaining to yesterday to project their tomorrows. When that mind set is in order much of the now is missed completely. The only true reality is NOW. Tomorrow isn't here yet and yesterday is gone. Try it you'll like it!

Many of us do think for themselves. It never ceases to amaze me how so many people believe that Christians are all ignorant and not open to different paths or ideas. Dear sir, the Catholic Church has even stated that evolution and even alien life is not considered a conflict with Catholic Belief. You really should study more and speak to actual people before you form opinions about all Christians.
Peace of Christ,
Debra

An evolutionist would probably say no because a Christian would probably make reference to their beliefs in how God created everything in parallel to intellectual statements and theories.
So there, in itself, you see a constant "dependence" on the bible or what is considered religious beliefs or 'facts' before making such intellectual decisions. .

There would definitely be a long hard period of panic and confusion to get through. Most of them would probably only last a short time and then turn back. Thinking can be very scary.

If they could think for themselves, would they follow the book of the Christians?

well, im on of the most independant people i know. ive been on my own since i was 14, and have travelled across the country three times on my own. it took me a long time to come to terms with god. i had had such a hard life, and couldnt understand why if there was a god, i would have been so tortured in my childhood. i always believed there was a god though. ive seen too many things that lead me to believe there is something out there. the turning point for my faith was realizing that because of my awful beginnings, im stronger than your average girl, and that there has to be a reason for it. god didnt make my childhood and youth painful, my parents and accquaintances did, and because he gave them free will, he had to let them do it, however, i know it was him that kept me alive through it all. ive tried to kill myself three times, and all three times, it didnt work when it should have. i slit my wrists, and they just stopped bleeding (even though i cut longways.) i jumped off a three story roof and only twisted my ankle. (boy was i pssed at the time.) and i swallowed a whole bottle of vicodin, and only got sick for my trouble. near as i can tell, he doesnt want me to die, theres a reason im here, and i have to fufill it before i pass. since i have found god, i havent lost myself, im still the weird, wacky, zainy person i always was, and though i cant always follow everything in his word, i try, and im happier because of it. i think that alot of his word has been twisted over the ages, and because of this, i dont follow alot of the doctrines of the church. i dont believe being gay is wrong. it does say, do not have anal sex, but thats not a commandment, its a suggestion, and a very good one, as science has proved that anal sex is the most dangerous kind, and spreads disease faster. however, this is a suggestion to keep his children safe, not a commandment. as long as people practice safe sex, i dont see how its wrong to love who your heart tells you. also, i dont believe that smoking pot is wrong. it says in genisis, "i give to you as food all seed bearing fruits and plants." marijuanna has seeds, and though i personally smoke it, i know a few older people that dont smoke it because they dont like the smoke, so they eat it in cakes a brownies. it does say however, do everything in moderation. in short, i believe in god, i love god, and i believe that jesus died for me that day... but i dont believe that i must blindly follow others beliefs. the bible was written by man, and because of this, its not perfect, and its open to many different interpretations. all i can do is honestly try to find my own right path to god, without loosing myself, or becoming a sheep.

sometimes i think not, but then again its not just about christianity. its about every religion/culture/belief that has ever existed. we only know what we have been taught and it is easy for us to go along with it and believe everything we have been told. if everything we have ever known our whole lives was taken away from us, of course we'd be completely lost

Of course. It's not that difficult, just a matter of adjustment. Many, many Christians have evolved beyond superstition and lived happy, productive lives.
