One of my dogs is allergic to grass...go figure.
Anyway the vet told me when I took him in for an exam to make sure what was causing the problem, that giving him 1 tab of dye free (the white kind) benedryll is fine. It worked very well.
The vet also gave me "doggy sudaphed" for his allergies.Together the 2 meds combined cleared up his little nose in one day. I wouldnt reccomend giving your dog people sudaphed though.
Talk to your vet first Since your dog is older and may have other medical conditions to be cautious of. And benadryll can really make your pupp sleepy so dont be alarmed if she sleeps all day.
As far as shaving your dog.....a groomer is best if its her and your first time. I shave my dogs with help one holds the dog one uses the clippers. They absolutely HATE it but once they are done they run around like maniacs with their "new dos" showing off and probably a lot cooler.

You really need to talk to the vet. And if they agree, they need to tell you the dosage--even with baby Benedryl.
As far as shaving, again...leave it to the professionals. If the dog is 13 and has never been shaved, it could be a very traumatic experience for the dog and you!

You can, but I wouldn't treat your dog for something without taking them to the vet. You should give plain Benedryl only. But I urge you to take them to the vet first. Why would you not want to take your dog to the vet? I don't understand.
If you need to shave your dog do it with a pair of clippers. Cut the hair down about an inch and then use clippers. Good luck.

Yes.. Benedryl is one of the few HUMAN medicines that you can give to a pet. I give benedryl tol my dog (17 years old) from time to time when she gets problem with her lungs which I suspect is also a problem with allergies... I would not give it for a long time.. maybe two days in a row.. one in morning, one in evening for two days

You can give your dog benedryl just call you're vet and ask what the best dosage would be for the size of your dog.

I have a 80 pound black lab who gets allergies and I give him 1 tablet of benedryl and it works wonders. No more scratching his skin or rubbing his paw over his eyes. Also, not long ago he got stung by several wasps and the vet told me to give him benedryl.

You can try Benadryl a childrens dose of liquid . It may or may not help. Sometimes it can cause excitablility.
As for shaving your dog, get some clippers and a blade (size 40) and start slow, you may need someone to help you hold the dog.

you can give a dog benedryl, but only in small amounts. I usually cut a baby dose in half to give to mine. You can call your vet and they will tell you how much to give.

Yes, but only after talking to your vet to find out the correct dosage.
As far as shaving your dog, that's pretty simple. you just take the clippers and shave him, there is no right way to do it. Just keep the clippers out of the dogs eyes and be gentle around bony areas such as legs face and hips.
