You are talking about the hard disk drive?

If yes,
open the case to see what brand of hard disk is in the computer (if necessary)

use another computer to browse the internet to the manufacturer web site

then go to the suppport section to download the diagnostics for your drive.

typically this will involve creating a floppy disk to boot from.

If there is nothing worth saving on the hard drive, then it may be simpler and safer just to buy a new one.

If you mean hard drive
First reboot

if the computer can't start and give you a message saying that the computer is unable to find a hard drive

go to best buy and buy a new one.

If you mean a driver for a device
Try to download the new version of the driver install recommended that you reboot
And see if the problem persists.

I recommend that first you go to the device manager and check the status of all the devices to see if one is having a problem

reboot the pc and then go to the boot from screen and choose the cd rom drive. Place the windows reinstall cd in and restart your PC so that it boots from the cd drive.
