no one site in particular is going to always offer better fares than the next. Travelocity could have a butt cheap fare one week and have the highest fare the next week. it all depends on how many seats are available on a flight. this can change in a matter of minutes. say you are looking at a flight and you see a low fare. a soccer team books 34 seats on that flight and you check back ten minutes later and the fare is $300 higher.

in order to get the best fare, you need to check several sites everytime you look at fares. also, once you find a good fare, book it though the airlines website. most travel booking sites have a surcharge of $5 or more.

There are many great places to find cheap flights, but prices vary based on a few factors: your destination/itinerary and airlines available in the database. For example, Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia all have similar databases and prices. I prefer Orbitz of the three, followed by Travelocity (based more on ease-of-use and selection). If you're looking for the best possible fares, however, you may want to check out SideStep.com, as they are the only database with discount airlines like Southwest and Jet Blue. Good luck!

I ALWAYS check Expedia.com first, then try to beat their price by going direct to the airline's own site. The pain is that soutwest, jet blue, and other regional airlines aren't on expedia or any of the other major sites.

Go to the airline's site. You will feel safer knowing that you booked through the airlines, and they WON'T leave you stranded.
