Out of the three you listed, the beagle. Since it is the biggest seller for family dog.
Pugs are a companion style dog, and pit bulls are considered more of a guardian breed even though they are a terrier (meant to hunt little things)
Of all dog breeds the most popular seller is the golden lab. It's all over good personality; high trainability and reasonable size make it the tops.
Beagles are a nice dog, but since they are a hound they tend to follow their nose, and need more of a firm hand in training.
All dogs should be bought from a reputable breeder, or acquired from a rescue group. NEVER from a pet store in the mall.
Strict "Pet store" type shops in the Mall (Not Petsmart etc.) obtain their animals from "puppy mills" which have animals in terrible conditions, with only profit in mind. They do not provide you with a mentally or physically sound animal.
Petsmart or other similar stores may have a small "pet rescue" shelter area up front where animals are available for adoption for a small fee as a service related to a nonprofit agency. This is not the same thing. Often these animals are a good deal. They have already been seen by a vet, and have shots already.
In any case. If you do choose to buy from a breeder. Choose a breeder that is recommended by your vet. Is part of kennel clubs. Is willing to show you the area the animals live in. It should be clean and maintained. They should be curious about you. They should care about the animals and be concerned about where they will live.
Ideally breeders do not already have animals available to take home. The puppies you look at are already "ordered" to other people. You will have to "Order" for the next litter, or from another yet un-bred female dog. The "father" dog often will not be on site, but they may have pictures. Often a "stud" dog is brought to the lady for a fee. He may be a champion of the dog show circuit.
If you are interested in showing the dog make sure the lineage is appropriate. But just because the dog has "papers" does not mean you can make money breeding it. Most responsible breeders never make a profit. They do it for love of the breed.
Hope that helps.

I have had a beagle for about six years. She is sitting right next to me and she wants me to tell you that there is no dog as good as she is. Actually she can't talk, but if she could I'm sure that's what she would say. My neighbor used to have a pug. They were sooo ugly. I literally couldn't tell the front end from the rear end. I don't have much experience with pit bulls.

Right now? I would say pugs are more popular. My sister can't wait to get one, but she has to wait until she moves out of her apartment. I think pit bulls are just scary... the kind of dog guys buy when they want to come off as being ultra masculine.

Labs and Retrievers are the most popular with probably Pit Bulls coming up close behind. I am an Akita owner and don't like most of the others. Good question!! DOGS RULE!!

beagle, or pug.
no way> pit bull.
very dangerous dog. pit bulls are popular for the fact is people mis-use them. for guard dogs for drugs, entertainment for fighting. that's the only reason why they're popular.
i don't trust any pit bull, with a 10 ft pole. they are bred to fight.

Pits are incredibly popular in WA state, but they're also banned in most of the state cuz they are so freakin' vicious. I dont care if their owners say they're not.
I myself love Boxers and Weimeraners and those types of dogs. I had a chocolate Lab, and he was the dumbest, most loving animal. I miss him. =(
