well, it could mean someone who eats the same types of foods and never tries anything new, so they eat within the box and never eat outside the box.

OR

It could mean someone who eats only quick convenience foods bought in boxes.

generally means do you only eat prepared meals versus cooking from scratch. "Cake from a box" denotes using cake mix (like Betty Crocker, etc) instead of using a receipe.

i know that it means you are taking too much of something could be anything such as dont go eating out of the box on your luck cause it might not last long
