I agree with you, sometimes DCF is out of line. It's a power trip. It's kinda like when the cops pull you over and they get all high and mighty. Sometimes DCF takes the child just to cover their ***. Any little rumor or whatever, and DCF can threaten to take your kid. I've had to deal with DCF and their BS, I was going through a very high conflict custody battle and the ex was determined he would rather the state take our kids than let me have them. It's all a big game. Just do what you gotta do to get your kids back, jump through all the hoops.
You gotta remember there are times when there are valid reasons they take kids away. But I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the instances where someone is after you and start the rumors to have your kids taken away just to spite you. If you really are abusing your kids, that's a whole other story.

I think they overextend their power sometimes, then they seem useless in others. For some reason, I think it's a good thing they get a bit overzealous, just because there are so many nasty self-righteous people out there who think nothing of beating there children ruthlessly. I just think that once the law gets involved, even when they shouldn't be focusing on one family anymore, they do so with utter vigilance and they keep looking for something from that one family when they should be looking at others too. I think they are really trying to do it in the best interest for children, but from what I hear, the people who actually work for DCFS, for the most part are corrupt, trashy scoundrels themselves.
I know of a heartbreaking story where a child was taken from her mother for having a substance problem, The mother got clean, but they didn't care, she could only have monitored visits. Well, this little girl was being abused by one of the DCFS workers who took her in. Ruthlessly abused. The little girl was not allowed to talk about or say anything to her mother about her new care taker according to DCFS laws.
Despite being put through their psychological evaluations, this abusive parent DCFS worker, eventually murdered this little girl by tying her up with duct tape in the basement to a chair. the kid died of suffocation. Can you imagine the pure hell that poor little girl went through with this b***ch. That worker should have gotten the death penalty, I think. anyway,
It seems very unnecessary to take children away from their natural parents most of the time and I think the law is slowly starting to recognize this.
But I dont' really agree with "disciplining" a child by smacking them around. before you know it, you are beating them all the time for one thing or another and the kid doesn't even know what they do wrong anymore or what real danger is. People that smack their kids a lot fly off the handle with the same rage and beatings for small stuff as they do with big stuff, just depending on the mood of the adult.
That is why I think people who like to "spank" just do it because they are a lazy parent and they don't know how to control their kid(s) or parent in any way that takes some thought (like distraction) to find a solution for the child.
For the most part, I'd say that if you were hitting your kid enough that you got ratted out, you deserve to be in trouble with DCFS.
Kids that come from that end up losers, drug addicts, trash in a trailer, never going to college because their parents are selfish and don't really care about the future of their child or how they turn out. just my opinion

DFCS can't remove a child from the home unless there is concrete reason for them to believe that child has been abused or neglected in some way. And they work with the family more than is necessary to reunite them as soon as is possible.
It actually costs the government money to have these children in foster care, so the primary motivation must be the welfare of the child.

I don't know because right now you know they are getting bad press because a lot of children have come up missing or dead because they were not keeping track like they should have. So now they are going crazy with this thing. The only thing I can say is that sometimes to help those who really need it sometimes the innocent suffer. The only thing I can say is to make sure that your children know the difference between abuse and discipline and to be careful with how you discipline in public. Seems like the parents, lawyers and law makers will have to get involve to make some changes.

I think they probably need to remove more children not less. Seldom is a child removed before several contacts and intervention attempts. The bias is for keeping a family together, so in 99% of the cases kids who get removed should have been long ago!

I personally don't think DCFS would remove a child from their parents' home without proper reason. If you think they have, then it is up to you to fight it, get an attorney (if you can't afford one contact a local law school to find out about pro bono work)

This is the most outragous question I have ever seen. The Department of Child Services doesn't GET money for having detained your child and making sure he/she has a safe place to live. They have to PAY. They have to pay the foster parents, the agencies that provide services to the parents like counseling and parenting classes, the agencies that provide drug rehab, the cost of drug testing, the cost of paternity testing in most cases. Then there are monies provided to the parents for housing, clothing, furniture, etc. You need to get off your high horse and look in the mirror.

They wouldn't have taken away your child without cause. Face it, you're a lousy parent and shouldn't have a child.
And to the above poster, DCFS = Department of Child and Family Services.

Take some parenting classes. Even if you don't need them. It can't hurt.
