Sure they do. And so do soldiers from other countries when they get a chance. It's happened in every war & you're not going to stop it.

Often? No. But on a regular basis? Pretty much. And not specifically during times of war, either. It may not be always over the rate of rapes found among the respective civilian populations, but sometimes bad people sign up for the military & the system isn't able to keep every bad apple out.

2005: Six U.S. Marines rape a 22-year-old Phillipine woman.

2004: Photos at Abu Ghraib show U.S. military raping Iraqis

1995: Two U.S. Marines rape a 12-year-old Okinawan girl.

1993: U.S. soldier rapes Okinawan woman, then escapes while in custody.

1985: 40-year-old Okinawan woman raped by two soldiers.

And these are just a few of the ones that made the news. I can barely imagine what the U.S. Military hasn't been forthcoming about over the decades.

But like I said, I really doubt most military personnel are rapists or psychos. But the opportunity to carry high-powered firearms and kill others with them is likely appealing to the psychos out there. Joining the military doesn't just attract good-haerted & sane people, I'm afraid. (I do not envy the job of those in the military who have to try and screen the psychos out of the recruiting pool. From what I hear, psychos can be pretty sneaky when they want to.) That's why punishment of soldiers who rape needs to be clear, unequivocal and strong. If the U.S. are to be the "good guys" in these conflicts, we have to come down hard on those who would tarnish the good name of our military and our country. Just MHO.

Men sometimes rape women this is very sad but true. If these men are part of the US military they have a much better chance of being caught and punished than men in the general population do. Everyone wants to concentrate on the fact that this crime occurred without considering that the crime was detected, publicized, investigated and if found guilty the rapists will be punished. Also believe me you would be better off doing time in an American civilian prison than in a military stockade.

I think military people from any country trys to get away with as much as possible, exspecially if their supperiors are crooked too...

it's not just the American military...

Heck I'd say American Military men rape women in their own military more then the enemy (which is sad), and much goes unreported due to the woman doesn't want to loose her job or rank by speakin' up (yes it's that bad...)

No, because it is against military rules. Of course, when you have a population of 100's of 1000's of soldiers in any location, you are going to have some criminals in there.

But unlike the Imperial Japanese Army (WW2) or the Soviet Red Army, rape is a crime in the US Army. Unlike the Chinese Red Army, running over civilians with tanks is a crime in the US Army. Unlike the UN Forces, raping children is a crime in the US Army.

This is not to excuse the action, far from it. But with that many men deployed, this type of crime had a high probability of occurrence of happening at least once.

No evidence of rapes occurring often. I think they have sex with 3rd world country women. In a country that believes it is a huge sin to have sex outside of marriage, rape is often called to protect themselves from family & community outrage. Even in USA some will claim rape so religious families will not know they had sex outside of marriage. There are rapes but not always.

No they do not often molest women in 3rd world countries. If you have a brother in the service do you think he is a rapist? You ask about the American men, what about the American women that are service people.

Not so sure about "often" but it does occur in every war..and with many other countries doing the same thing..War is hell and theres always bad people in every crowd..I dont judge every soldier by one others horrific deeds though..If found guilty they will do the time...The media always blows things way out of line on every issue they think will sell papers and air time..Bless our troops that prevent this type of thing from happening on our soil!

No, I think the military are an accurate representation of the US population and probably .1% or less are rapist. But with the media going against the military right now you would think that everyone in the military is evil!
