Don't try a screwdriver, its a hassle and may wreck the little plastic collar washer that protects the door panel and lets the crank spin freely. There is a special tool to remove the C-clip that has two prongs bent outward. Those prongs must be released simultaneously in order to remove the crank. The clip need not be removed entirley, just unseated from its latched position. The tool is flat with a keyway. Press the door panel back away from the crank base to see the clip and which way the prongs are facing. Let the panel back out against the crank base and slip the tool between the two from an angle that lets the tools teeth meet the two prongs squarely. Just a little force will release the clip, the pull the handle straight toward you. Its off! To replace the crank, re-install the clip in its original location before putting the handle back on, you'll never get the clip in place otherwise.

Depends on the car. Some have hidden screws (usually hex type) beneath a removable cover, others use clips that can be removed with 2 small screwdrivers to spread the clip apart.

If it is the clips, you can pry it off with a single screwdriver with practice.. or just go to one of the better auto parts stores like AutoZone. See if they have a special tool just for taking them off. Around here we have a chain called Cut Rate Auto Parts that I know carries it for under $10 and it takes a lot of the frustration out.
