My husband, infant daugter, and myself are planning on relocating in the next couple of years. We currently live the the Tucson, AZ area. We're looking for the small town type of life with good schools. We want to live on land without paying a fortune for it. Opinions?

Husband-hydrologist/engineer. Can work in civil or ag.
Me-household CEO and one day I'll get paid to work at a college
I grew up in PA and would love more info on Colorado. I moved from PA 10 years ago and know that it has changed. What do you see that has changed?
Negatives for both would greatly help.

I live in Colorado. Fort Collins is a beautiful area, college city but it is not small... Not anymore... The schools are decent but Fort Collins has become expensive! I do not know anything about Lancaster County, PA... What do you and your husband do for careers? You might want to consider Berthoud or Greeley, Colorado... Good luck.

I got my degree in Hydrology from Univ. of Az in Tucson. Is that where your husband got his degree? Anyway, I ended up in San Antonio, TX. Plenty of cheap land still available around here and in the surrounding small towns. Even the city has a small town values and there are several firms that would hire a hydrologist or civil engineer. Schools are decent.

I saw in your other post that you were considering Lancaster. I grew up east of there in Philly. Land and houses are getting really expensive in that area, but it is a nice area. Depending on your husband's specialty in hydrology, he could probably find a job in the area with no problem -- plenty of polluted groundwater in PA that needs cleaning up and construction firms need people to do drainage and runoff design for new developments.
