Ok so I keep dating girls who have a past boyfriend who were verbally abusive/controlling, etc (I know, how lucky am I?). These girls are alot of fun to be around and love life but they just seem to have trouble with relationships after being with a guy like that.

Now I know just being there for her/telling her how I feel and giving her time (but not waiting around forever) to gradually get over her fears is a solution, or meeting other people, etc....but what Im looking for is some act or something that could be said. Im not worried about waiting around, I just don't want to be some wussy boy waiting for her to find some other guy. If that's the case and she's possibly lost interest or something, what could be done to keep her interest? (I know, leaving the situation altogether is the best but I want to try something different)

I was abused by my father and my ex's. Now I am happily married to a wonderful man. He sat me down, told me how he felt about me and that he would never hurt me. He was patient with me. Don't be too big of a wuss though. Girls don't like that. Sometimes people that have that kind of a past, never recover. I haven't, but I know my husband would never hurt me. Some are worse than others. So if you don't think the person is going to get better and you can't handle it, then move on, but if you really love this person and want to help her, then do your best and let her know how you feel. Build her trust in you and never break it. At least she will have one person in her life that she can let her guard down. It took me a long time to let my guard down, because you just don't want to get hurt again. It feels like you just can't take anymore pain. So be patient, she will come around. Good luck.

Move on boy!! Or take the mature way and try to convince her that youre not that type of guy and that you really wanna be with her.

On second thought you say you always meet girls who say that? We tend to use those excuses when we're not interested in someone. SORRY!!

Try and see if she would talk to you about what happened with her ex end re-assure her that your not like that and that you'll always have respect 4 her... thats if you really like the girl don't give her false hope if your not in it for the long haul.

If the X keeps coming around... Kick his A$$. If you intend to leave her anyway at least she'll know that you tried to protect her while you were there.
